Talon Mfg is merely the company that packages the CMP ammo in cardboard boxes. The ammo itself comes from either Greece (HXP) or the Lake City (LC) Ammuntion Plant, near Independence, Missouri.

Either is good ammo, but I have found HXP to be slightly more accurate than LC.

new manufacture 30-06 ammo is not M2 ball. Be cautious picking up bulk 30-06 for an old military rifle

What rifle do you plan on using this ammo for? If your rifle was made for M2 ball I would suggest using M2 ball, not modern day 30-06. Although the caliber is correct it is not the same stuff. The powder they used back then was different.

You can even get incorrect info from a powder manufacturer on how to load a 30-06 for rifles such as the M1 rifle- the loads will be too 'hot'

if you have a bolt action rifle like a 1903 or 1903A3 or something then I wouldn't worry too much. If you have a semi-automatic rifle, using modern day 30-06 loads, unless made for the semi-auto action of that type of rifle, can damage the operating rod and gas system. It won't happen on the first shot but it can and will happen

If you want to shoot commercial 30-06 and you have for example an M1 then please look into an adjustable gas plug. Just be aware that modern 30-06 is not M2 ball

30-06

I just got my M1 from cmp and was looking for ammo I thought I had heard about a problem with non surplus ammo but wasn't sure what the problem was. Does any body sell a factory round that is safe in a M-1?

I do not know of an ammo supplier that sells the equivalent of the surplus M2 ball. It may be out there, but I bet it's not cheap. I pay 30-36 cents a round depending on where I see it for my surplus ammo and that's not cheap either

But surplus ammo is out there

However, if you want to shoot commercial ammo, all you really need is to get an adjustable gas plug and set it
