3 guns...one choice...

When it rains, it pours y'all. In the last 2 days, I've located a Norinco 1911, a hi-cap SA ultra compact (v10) and a pre ban CZ 75 w/15 round mags. ($359, $550 and $389 respectively.) Of course I want them all and can't really afford any of them, but I intend to purchase one. I'm leaning toward the Norinco, but would love to hear some other opinions. I'm going for another TECATE now...see ya!

Personally, I'd keep shopping. :D

But, for you, IMNSHO, the CZ is the only choice among those three.

I have both the Norinco and a CZ-75 (and CZ-85 Combat...)

The Norinco is a good BASE GUN, a starting point for a good custom .45 -- and its in that role that it has gotten its good name.

By itself, it'll be functional but will need some parts and work by a competent gunsmith before you have something really worthwhile. Add another couple of hundred before you're through.

The CZ-75 on the other hand, is ready to go.
But the price may be a little high. You should have some haggling room at that price, but its not worth passing up for $20. (They're availble in the $300-$350 range most places, with one 15 rounder and one 10...)

"The Norinco is a good BASE GUN...The CZ-75 on the other hand, is ready to go." I also own these two handguns. My opine is the opposite. My Norincos would out shoot my CZ75 out of the box. Both Norincos were accurate and reliable from the start. My Norinco pistols did need better sights but so does a box stock CZ75. I would go with the Norinco as I have no knowledge of the SA Ultra Compact V 10. Regards, Richard.

Get the CZ. Harder to find, and great guns.

1911's are dime a dozen (plus you could save up for the superior Kimber).

Why am I the only one to recommend the Ultra-Compact SA V-10? That's one of my fav compact 1911's. If I remember right, its 13 rounds of 45... you can't beat that. I can just about guarantee that a high-cap SA V-10 is just as rare as the other guns you listed.

The key word, (thanks Ben) is "rare". None of these guns are easy to find and the prices keep going up. I read a post on the 1911 forum where a guy saw a NIB Norinco at a gun show for $450. Hello! BTW, I forgot to mention that the Norinco and the SA are LNIB. The only new pistol is the CZ. That might change things, yes?
Regards, LD

I think the Para-Ordnance P-10 soaked up a lot of the press for the tiny 1911 widebodies and left the old SA high and dry. I think SA makes great guns.

This is probably obvious, but make sure the V-10 has a 12 round mag and not some 10 rounder. The price of a NEW SA ultra-compact would be about $200.00 higher. I say the used one sounds like a pretty reasonable deal. I don't know much about Norinco, but maybe you can get both if you eat Ramen noodles for the next month ;o)

keep us informed on your decision,
Ben

All thinsg being equal I'd get the Norinco. They're no longer imported, they're getting tougher to find, lots of top 1911 smiths recomend them as base pistol, but they work great stock. You can get a CZ75 whenever you want, although CZ75Bs are more common. I don't like the Springfield double stacks, the grip feels like an axe handle to me.

On other thing completely, forget the Tecate and hunt down some Carta Blanca or Bohemia. Them are less well known, but better Mexican brews IMHO.

My wife is very happy with her V-10... She has even let me shoot it!
From those choices - I'ld pick the V-10 but go with a single stack version to match my Detonics.

I'm an old Carta Blanca fan from way back, but with two babies, my beer drinking habits have changed. Tecate in the can is cheap, cold and beats the snot out of Miller. ;)

I think Walt Sherrill got it right. I just think hi-cap 1911's can be more trouble then the single stacks, and mags are harder to come by.
