At least three police officers have been shot, and one of them is dead after they went to a home at 3634 Capital Heights with a search warrant, Sgt. Don Kelly said.

"During the execution of that search warrant, some shots were apparently fired from inside the residence toward the officers. We believe that at least some of our officers also returned fire. All we know right now is we have three Baton Rouge Police and narcotics officers who have been shot, and at least one suspect has been shot," Kelly said.

The three officers were assigned to the narcotics unit, Kelly said.

At the scene, Kelly would not provide names or conditions.

However, City-Parish Administrative Officer Walter Monsour told the Metro Council that one officer was dead and another seriously wounded.

WBRZ's Ben Lemoine learned that the dead officer was shot in the head, and the seriously wounded officer was also shot in the head and was taken into surgery at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

The third officer was shot in the leg, and his wounds are not life-threatening, Monsour said.

The suspect was also wounded, Monsour said.

Witnesses said the suspect was bleeding on the ground and in handcuffs before he was taken away in an ambulance.

WBRZ has since confirmed reports that the suspect has also died.

Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff said an investigation is ongoing.

Another "victory" in the War on (some) Drugs. :( Let's keep pursuing the same failed policy, I'm sure things'll improve  :barf: .

Most of these A-holes have been in and out of jail with a rap sheet longer than my bedsheet. The justice system and some parole boards in this country are a joke. Sadly the war on drugs can never be totally stopped, only slowed by taking serious freedoms away from all. Its sad that living in a free society has this kind of a price. We need stiffer sentencing, no early parole and judges without bleeding hearts. I think one of the deadliest jobs in law enforcement deals with drug enforcement in all phases.

The drug trade not only hurts at home but it is a fact much of the money from drug sources funds terrorism. I feel for the families of the officers, but have zero sympathy for the perp. Sadly had he survived, some low life lawyer would have said he feared for his life and thats why he shot.

Sad story..Very sad..

But check out LEO # 2 (left to right) he has a load of tabacco in his mouth... (nasty habbit) I was pulled over once and the cop had a "nugget" in his mouth... so nasty!!! he would spit a few feet from me... a fat wad of brown saliva landing 4-5 feet from you isnt fun, smells and isnt very pleasent to look at!

My father chewed for years untl he was told to stop by his doctor.

Talk about being off topic!!! :D

Druggies shooting Officers

The People's Republic of China has little or less to offer civilized America except the reported way to deal with druggies. First Offense-rehab. Second Offense-rehab. Third offense- a 7.62X39 bullet in the brain.

I believe it would work here.

Debating the war on drugs is one thing, doin it on the graves of the dead is another

Wow, I had already copied your text and was about to hit "reply" and paste it when I saw that stevelyn said exactly what I was going to say!

The only reason for the debate about the lunacy of the drug was is EXACTLY that it results in needless graves dug -- for NO GAIN WHATSOEVER.

What is the quantity of drugs sold each day/week/month/year in the U.S.? What is the number of drug dealers? What is the amount of money made illegally on drug trade?

ARE THESE NUMBERS ANY LESS THAN THEY EVER WERE? IS THERE ANY LACK OF ABILITY FOR DRUG DEALERS TO REPLACE SEIZED DRUGS, OR INCARCERATED 'EMPLOYEES'? NO? WELL, THERE ARE GOOD-GUYS DEAD OVER THIS BULL$#!T 'WAR,' SO THAT MEANS WE ARE LOSING.

And this is the kind of war that you continue to lose until you stop fighting it, and approach the "drug problem" in an altogether different way. And oh, we also would have to get rid of the corruption that makes the authorities WANT to perpetuate the so-called 'war.'

That cop with the wad of chaw in his maw looks like the actor Casey Siemazsko (sp?), from Young Guns, and Three O'Clock High (and others). Whaddya think?

I hate seeing good people get killed for no good reason. Yet it's gonna keep happening until the government decides it's costing too much. That ain't gonna happen until some congresscritters' kids get killed though.
Drugs do bad things to people. The War On Drugs does worse. Drugs only screw up the weak and the willing, a la Darwin, while the WOD takes a toll of our best.
RIP.

The war on drugs is a farce.

The government decides which drugs are legal and which they will bust into your home with drawn weapon to confiscate.

Meanwhile, "legal" drugs are sold and the government collects taxes and license fees.

These legal drugs (tobacco, alcohol, pain killers etc...) account for many times more deaths than the illegal ones.

The government is only doing the will of big business and coorporations now. If Pfizer or some other huge drug company had a patent on marijuana or cocaine, and the goverment had a way of regulating it - YOU CAN BET YOUR LIFE IT WOULD BE LEGAL. And available at your local pharmacy (for a lot more $$$ than it costs on the street, too).

Doesn't this seem wrong?

errr, maybe my sig will be worthless now :(.....

There were no drug laws until the turn of the century, the 20th. Before then, 1776 (1779?) up to 1920's or '30's (don't know exactly when) there were no laws, no LEO's kicking down doors, etc..

Society seemed to work up until then just fine.

All I have to say is that we live in a "free" (no longer but still quoted as) America. Where stupid people (like me that drinks and smokes) can kill themselves in any manner they wish. What difference does it make if one decided to indulge in the "snake oil", booze, ciggarettes, snuff, chew, wine, or even listening to music 100db over what is good for you?

With freedom comes stupidy and the Right to act on that stupidity. And if anyone brings up "Well, drugs have advanced since then".... morphine, herione, coke (cocaine), maryjuanna (I can't spell marijauana), etc.. were there when they were there (opiates) but they didn't make an amendment that they were illegal, they never discussed that it should be illegal, it wasn't even bought up (that I know of) at that time... and they were the ones that had the power to set the basic laws of the land, then and now.

Yep, I just got back home in time for supper, long trip. She lives a good twelve blocks away from the scene, at least, so all is good. We thought the area was safer once we got her a few miles away from LSU! Go figure! :o
