3" 629 question

Hi, Guys

I'm back from the weekend, with a question regarding my SW629.

Since I have som others .44s, I decided to buy a 3" barrel to exchange the original 6" one of my 629. I did that and went out for testing my new "snubbie" on a shooting weekend.

I fired 170 shots (yes, my wrist, arm and sholder fells like hamburger meat :p ), reloads and factories, and one problem occured.

Three times, in the 170 shots, when shooting DA, the firing pin didn't hit the center of the primer, didn't igniting the bullet.

My two guesses are, a) the cylinder didn't turn completely, so the firing pin hit the corner of the primer, or b) it did turn right, but for some reason, didn't lock, so when the hammer got down, it turned back a little, making the firing pin hit the corner of the primer, not the center.

The only thing I can think about is that the gun got so much dirty of unburned powder (it's a 3" barrel, and I shot full charged Magnum .44 cartridges) that it compromissed the mechanism.

What do you think ?

By the way,

You should see the blast on the 3" of the .44 Magnum, especialy the israeli IMI SANSOM 180gr. JHP...

My friends put a new nick name on my gun: NAPALM. :)

Fired my buddies 629 4 inch at the range last Wed. After 6 shots I could feel it in my wrists. I can only immagine what 170 rds. feels like. Ouch! Norm P.

My 629 gets a little sticky after 50 rouds; I can imagine the mess 170 rounds would make and what it would do to the functionality of your revolver.

170 Mags... Agree with Norm... Ouch!

170 magnums? Now that's a good day at the range!

BTW, you're problem could have been caused by residue buildup if it was real dirty ammo.
