i was at the gunshop the other day and was told the vaquero's are in their second generation. what are the differences from the first generations? i am thinking about picking up another but dont know whether to go 1st or 2nd series, tia.

The New Vaquero is built on the old original .357 Blackhawk frame size, (with fixed sights and New Model transfer bar, of course) and is only a little bigger than a Colt. It is NOT recommended for the magnumized .45 Colt loads often shot in Original Vaqueros on the big frame. There are already reports of some being wrecked by super hot loads that an Original Vaquero would have handled.

If you are in the habit of overloading .45 Colt, better buy now, the Original Vaquero is being dropped from production.

yes im looking for a .45 that can handle some hot loads. are the originals still in production or are they only producing the 2nd generation now? thanks

The Word on the SASS Wire is that the Original Vaquero is going to be or has already been discontinued. It is still shown on the Ruger website, so they are probably still available.

If you want to shoot the big loads be SURE you are getting the big gun.

There is also the Blackhawk you can put loads thru them that would wreck most guns, you can take your .45 Colt loads up to +p :)
