Back iin 2006 the marlin limited edition series rifles were about $600. I saw a used 357 go for $2900 on gun broker in the last month. You would have thought it was a $3000 M1A match rifle or something. Why are these guns so desireable that people will pay many times what they sold for just six years ago? Talk about an investment!

I wouldnt give anywhere near that for one but you might see one sell for big money because

1: they dont make them anymore and the right Marlin or levergun collector that "just has got to have one" might pay that much for a limited edition since they are kind of hard to find.

2: Marlin is not the company it was even as recent as 2006, they were bought out in 2007 by Cerberus Capital Management, the same parent company that owns Remington, H&R and NEF, Bushmaster, DPMS/Panther, Dakota, The Parker Gun, Advanced Armament, Para USA, Tapco weapons gear, Mountain khakis, and Barnes bullets. These are all known collectively as Freedom Group, they are the largest manufacturer of commercial firearms and ammunition in the world.

Since Marlin has been sucked into this cluster, quality and fit&finish has slipped significanly and most Marlin enthusiasts now refer to the newer guns as "Remlins."

For that reason, the right buyer will pay more for a "pre-Remlin" Marlin in excellent condition than they would a new one.

But $2900? Even for a limited edition, I agree thats too much
