2800fps 130gr VLD in 6.8 SPC

Standard ballistics for the 6.8 SPC with a 110 gr bullet are about 2,800 out of a 22" barrel. So he's claiming that same velocity with a 20% heavier bullet with no pressure signs. Okay. I believe he is getting the velocity he claims (everybody has a chronograph these days), but pressure is a tricky thing. It's hard to measure, and by the time you start seeing "pressure signs" you are already overpressuring the gun. And he has modified his gun to be able to seat the bullets out, and he is firing compressed loads, and is essentially playing with small bombs. But lots of people do it, and most of them have no issues other than breaking their guns.

I realize this is a old thread but felt the need to comment.

130gr VLDs with CFE or LVR and getting 2800+ fps out of a 22 inch barrel is impressive for the 6.8 SPC II AR. And these are not single loads.

Yama is one of several people on the 6.8 Forum finding ways to extend the boundaries of the 6.8 SPC II. For the record, I'm not one of those people. But I find it's amazing what you can do with small but safe modifications to an AR. In this case, a windowed PRI mag was used in combination small groves cut into the front of the AR's magwell. This allowed the load to be loaded longer than mag length which reduced the pressure in the load. Window mags and grooves in the magwell won't be needed if and when a metal mag is developed for LWRC's Six8. Maybe I'll jump on board once that occurs.
