Hello I'm new to this site and rifles. Been a shotgun man all my life till now. Anyway I bought a 270 model 710 Remington I know it's not the best but itll do for now. My question is I sited gun in with 130 corelocks, was told hornadys were better. I got a box of 130 hornadys sst, and they jam in my gun and my sons gun and my friends gun. Have any of you ever heard of this? I got so mad I threw them in the river!! Bought a box of Winchester ballistic silver tips and they seem awesome can put 3 in a 1 inch group at 100 yards n no probs.i got told that they r bad for the barrel???? I need some help I don't wanna mess up the gun. I have a Remington 742 bicentennial that has never been shot but it was grand paws and I don't wanna shoot it so I need help with my 270 thanks guys

I shoot the same Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertips in my .270. The black coating on the bullet is lubalox, not moly. Not bad for the barrel in the least, supposedly the lubalox reduces the pressure needed to swage the rifling into the bullet on firing and also reduces copper fouling which is what degrades accuracy and makes you need to clean the bore. Shoot them all you want (and can afford, they are pricey ) and don't sweat whether anything from Winchester is going to hurt your rifle.

Thanks. I'm stick with them. I like the gum but have read nothing but bad stuff about them. Guess I'm start saving for a good one.:D

If you're shooting 1" three shot groups at 100 yards with your 710, buying something different will be because you want to not because you need to.:)

Lol yeah but I heard they start to shoot bad after awhile. I just bought a 22.250 Remington 700 from a friend who bought it from my dad 20 years ago. I know it's not enough for deer r hogs but it'll help me learn to shoot better.

Used the ballistic silver's yesterday evening . Those rounds are awesome!!!! 1st hog, 275# 100yards fell like a brick!! 2nd hog 225# 150 yards didn't even twitch straight neck shot!! Thanks for y'all advice guy I REALY appreciate it !

I have dropped deer in their tracks with Core-Lokts in .270 Win and .30-06 and SSTs in my slug gun. Either is a great hunting round. Find out which your gun likes best and stick with it

That about says it all.

Oh the .22-250 is against the rules in many states. For those states that allow .22 caliber centerfire it has been used successfully for bambi. And for the average pig it'd be fine.

I have reloaded the ballistic silvertip since it came out. They are actually slightly better for the barrel than an uncoated bullet.

SST

I've not heard of anything bad about harnady. I use a 130gr sst superformance. I my weatherby Mark V 270 win. After a bed & float job and some trigger work I shoot 1/2" group @ 100yds. Not to bad for box ammo.

Like buzzcook said, some states don't allow deer hunting with .22-250, check in to it and if it is legal the .22-250 with the right bullet is truly devastating on deer! I have never used the hornady factory ammo (that I can remember anyway?) I am a handloader and have tried their sst bullets, I hated em! I loaded the 162 grain sst in my 7MM Rem Mag, it took more playing with loads to get them to shoot than anything else I have ever tried, I ended up seating the bullet 40 thousandths off the lands and got them to shoot an inch at 100 yrds, I shot a whitetail buck through the heart at 300 yrds and the bullet blew apart and bloodshot the whole front end of the deer, when I got done cleaning the deer up the best I could, I pulled the rest of what I had loaded with a kinetic bullet puller and threw them and the rest of the box of hornady sst bullets in the garbage. I shoot hornady xtp bullets in my .44 magnum revolver and really like them, but would never shoot the sst bullets again!

I've got a .22-250. I'm going to see how the Federal Premium loaded with 60 grain partition bullets perform. Quite certain they would be adequate for whitetails, as always with appropriate shot placement.
