.270 enough gun?

A .270 rifle shooting a 150 grain nosler partition, will this do on elk and african plains game. Thanks for replys.
 
Nope. Probably not. You need more margin for mistakes you might make. It's your responsibility as a hunter.

Agree with Sensop completely. Check Rich's thread on Africa in the Hunting forum.

IMHO, get a .338. If you really like your rifle, get it rebarreled to .35 Wheln or, if you reload, .338-06.

You need more bullet mass.

It will work fine on elk if you do your part, but I would take something a little heavier for Africa.

I've killed one nice bull elk with my .280 Rem., using my handload with a 160 gr. Nosler Partition bullet. Perfect setup. Couldn't have been more than 160/175 yards, across a park, not spooked, broadside, and I was practically benchrested. One shot.

But since, my elk rifle is a Ruger .338WMag., and have killed four with that. I'd opt for a .338 WMag, if I were you. FWIW. J.B.
