From research from here and my manuals i want to load to 130gr .270 with h4831sc. @ 59.5 gr. I have a few loaded up lesser to ease up to it My speers book says this is overloaded. All he info here is hat it is at max. Do y'all think it's good to m

Thanks guys for the info. I also have a hornaday bullet of 140 gr btsp what should be a good grains to start with

At 140gr, 10gr more bullet makes a difference. Consult your Hornady Manual for a safe load. Note that 130gr that you originally mentioned is considered "standard" for the .270 Win.

Good shooting!

A .270 doesn't have to be run full throttle to take game nor to punch holes in a target, start with a starting load from a Hornady or Hodgdon or Sierra manual, start at the starting load and work your way up in .3gr increments until you find the magic load and call it done. I've never had to go to a max load nor feel I need to go that far with any rifle I load for, the plus side of this method the cases last longer and the game is just as dead.. William

I've shot 130 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips for decades, and before that I used Nosler Solid Base Boattails, all over 59 gr of H4831. Norma brass and BR-2 primers. Used that load on hundreds of deer.

I'm getting Super results with 130 grn Btips and IMR 4451.
I get the copper defusing characteristic and the temperature insensitivity that is nice.
I'm at near max, but at .010 off lands my rifle would possibly put 5 bullets in a hole the size of a lima bean, but since I saw first two go into one hole, I had to get excited and pull the next one out a half inch, then 4th goes into first group, while I again choke and put the next one out at 3 quarters of an inch, and I knew when those flyers left, it was me that done it.

Hooligan, I'm laughing. It's the same problem I had yesterday with the 5th bullet. I was shooting my 223 with a new best load. The first 4 were in a cloverleaf, and I honestly dreaded shooting the 5 th bullet. Low and left, dang it.

b-dog:

You really should get the Hornady, it is a darned good one.

Lots of load tables on line as well (per the link above)

Use this at your own risk, while I believe it is accurate, it is out of the H book and I can MIS-TYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Start no higher than mid point per below.

H 140 BTSP: H4831 (not SC) 53.0 to 59.9

Per the H book, your 130 load is not at max but it could be depending on the rifle, sneak up on it, start 10% below at least.

My best 270 load

I have been getting 1/2 to 3/4 " groups with my M70 270, loading 53.7 gr IMR 4831 behind 140g Hornady BT's for over 20 years. It is a 22" barrel with 1:10 rifling. Best of Luck to you.

I loaded a test with 130 grn Partitions and 59 grns of H4831sc, that did not even come up to the neck of my winchester brass, depending on precision, might raise it to 60 grains.

603, No not case fill but by weight of course, I commented only because over the course of history with 130's and H4831 there has been many conflicting case fill stories.
I've read where one man gets compressed charge with(fill in the blank) powder weights and some can get plenty more powder in the case.....But no I weigh every powder charge I have ever dumped, and trickled up of course.
