260 Chamber Length

Having a 308 re-barreled and haven't found much info on chamber length. Using a Hornady OAL kit on the ER Shaw barrel, the measure is 2.795 with a 129gr Interlock. My Savage 16, in 260, measures 2.796. The OAL of the loaded cartridge in Hornady X is 2.775. What say you?

All this for .001"? There's probably more variation than that in any two rifles off the same production line. Just go for it.

Chamber lengths are set by SAAMI. Drawings and specs are on their site.
A new barrel will have nothing to do with the old one anyway.
However, since the .260 Rem is just a necked down .308, the chamber dimensions should be the same.
Lotta stuff like the Hornady OAL kit, which is supposed to be about seating depth, is more about separating you from your money than any practical value.

SAAMI has no chamber specification called "chamber length." My opinion is its the distance from the breech face to chamber mouth. It's related to case length.

.308 breech face to chamber mouth is 2.025 inch.
.260 breech face to chamber mouth is 2.035 inch.

Sizing case necks down to hold smaller caliber bullets lengthens them.

Thanks very much. I was looking for an OAL range, which I found on the SAAMI site. The top OAL length is listed at 2.800, with min of 2.530. I'll leave as is.
