.25ACP Beretta Jetfire

Kentucky Rifle

Last month I decided I "needed" (you know how it is :)) another mouse gun to keep in my pocket when I'm just around the house. I already have a P-32 and Guardian, but I wanted a really small, really light little pistol that I wouldn't even notice in my pocket when I watch a ballgame or auto race on TV. I purchased a stainless .25 caliber Beretta Jetfire. It's a great "watching TV gun", and truly tiny. I tried several loads to make sure it was reliable, and to my delight, it is. I purchased some "MagSafe" ammo and did the little test they recommend. Taped a corn beef on a milk jug. The MagSafes produced an impressive wound, even when I covered the corn beef with a layer of denim from an old pair of jeans the wound was huge. The MagSafes will be my .25 load.
My question is for the people who have a Jetfire. How do you carry it? If the hammer is down, it seems that a blow to the hammer would cause a AD. (The hammer is right down on the firing pin!) There is a hammer position, "one click back", that keeps it off the firing pin. So, how do you guys that have little Jetfires carry them?

Thanks,
Will

Hi Will
I have a nickeled 950 and also load it with MagSafe ammo. I carry mine with a full clip and an empty pipe with the hammer cocked so it is easy to rack the slide.

Ruger357,
Hello!
How old is your Jetfire?
I guess the frame on mine could be nickel, but "stainless" is clearly stamped on the barrel. Maybe the barrel is the only thing that's stainless.
I used the MagSafe "Defender" flavor. Pretty good for a .25ACP.
I think I'm going to buy some more for my Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm not giving advice, just reporting here: I've carried my 950 with the hammer on half-cock (that "one click back") and the safety on, with a loaded chamber. I use magsafes, too. This mode of carry might not be as safe as with an empty chamber, but then I'm not advocating that anyone try it.

Pre ban, I found a 4" barrel and replaced the Jetfire's 2 1/2" bbl. with it. Figure the extra velocity might assist in making it penetrate rather than skid around the outside of skullbone. Also load with glaser blue and PPS MSC full copper swc cookie cutters ( the Sanow designed one Ayoob says makes the 25 = 22 MRF terminal ballistics ). Empty chamber, empty mag well, 3 loaded mags. in a little tiny zipper case always in my prepacked suitcase.

When I go somewhere I add a 4" and a 2" 38 or a HiPower and a 380 given time. But if I get a call a family member several hours away is in critical condition it's throw suitcase in truck and hit the drive thru at the bank and I'm gone.

Rusty S,
What type .380 do you have? I like my Mustang Pocketlite .380 very much, sometimes I think about "adding" another .380 to the collection. Maybe a Beretta "Cheetah". I like the tip-up barrel feature on my Jetfire, and as I understand it, the Cheetah has the same feature.

My state allows 2 guns on the carry permit, but also allows a loaded pistol under the seat. Or rifle or shotgun magazine loaded but chamber empty ( fish and game regs ).

I have pistols up to and including an 8" nickeled Python ( believe Hawk used to sometimes carry on on the old Spenser TV show ) for intimidation, or 41 mags for sheer power, or hicap 9mms that can keep me going till the cops from 3 counties and a reservation respond. But they only work for off body carry given my build ( i.e. under the seat ).

The little Browning in the link is fine for "always" carry, but I'd like a larger, conceal in proper attire gun with more ammo.
I'm looking for a hicap 380 with available preban mags. Not now but sometime soon.

BTW: want to know how to double the wound trauma of a pipsqueak 380? Shoot twice.

Since you already have the Keltec P32, why consider the Jetfire for pocket carry? I'd much rather have .32ACP than .25ACP if I ever need to shoot, and the gun is no less concealable.

Johnwill,
Yes, I'll agree that if I ever had to shoot, the P-32 would be best. However, the Jetfire is much more comfortable in my pocket when I'm in my recliner watching TV. I always have a .40 caliber Glock close by, but I want a nasty little surprise for the bad guy in my pocket all the time. The Jetfire, loaded with MagSafes, fills that role nicely. :)

Will, I'm not sure how old mine is, but I do know it is all nickel. Your gun has a stainless barrel anf slide and your frame being alloy is most likely nickel.
