.25-06 powder.

I have piles of load data, but data does not show accuracy. I have not loaded .25-06 in 30 years. At the time, I used Imr 4350. Anyone have a favorite load for 100 or 115 they want to share? A powder that is extremely consistent over the Chronograph? I have almost all the H, Imr, Ramshot, Accurate, and Alliant powders.
 
Mine was Retumbo and 115gr Ballistic Tip.

IF there is data on accuracy, it is only valid for the test gun the data was taken from.

Lyman gave us "accuracy loads" for years, with the understanding that they were not giving us a load guaranteed to be the most accurate in OUR guns, but was what turned out to be the most accurate in THEIR TEST GUN.

They gave it to us as a "good place to start", no more, no less.

I used a case full of IMR 4350 and 87gr HPs as long range woodchuck wreckers, and they would do the job with devastating efficiency! Almost blow a chuck in two at 500yds!

Any of the slower rifle powders will work in the .25-06, as its right on the edge of overbore with slow powders and is overbore with faster ones.

Your gun is your gun and its different from mine and everyone else's. What will work best in your gun can only be learned from testing it.

I know that full well. Standard Deviation is usually pretty consistent between rifles. Harmonics is the big variable. You might not know a load will be good, but you can usually predict many that will be bad.
There are a few loads that seem to shoot in every rifle. Federal Gold medal 168 .308 Winchester being one.

I burned a lot of IMR4350 with bullets of 87 gr to 117 gr. Was always accurate for me and consistent.

However, there are better choices today.I like Alliant RL19 with the 87 gr and 100 gr. RL22 with the heavier stuff.
 
For 100gr or lighter I used IMR-4831 and IMR-4350, for the heavier 115 and up RL22 was tops.

With my Ackley version Ramshot Magnum gets it done with the 120 and 130gr.
 
If your using IMR 4350 just try H4350. It has proven the “go to” in other cartridges in terms of great SD/ED numbers which can be linked to more consistent loads, which in turn can lead to more accurate ones. Stability is arguably one of the better in its range. After that , reloader 16....this stuff is one of my personal favorites. It does all that H4350 does and has shown slightly better velocities. Lastly , reloader 17 has had very Impressive velocities and accuracy but it does suffer in the temp stability department.
 
H4350 may give good accuracy but velocity is lacking compared to the IMR version. IMR-8133 gives higher velocities than most powders with the 117-grain bullets. IMR-7977 gets almost .257 Weatherby velocities with 100s. Accuracy is more gun-dependent than powder-dependent.

In regards to the.257 Roy, the newer powders push it soundly out of reach of the .25-06.
 
I use 49 grns of IMR 4350 and a 120 grn Hornady hollow pt and i i can but 5 rounds touching at 100 yards been using this load for about 8 years with no changes, this is my go to Deer load
 
50.5- 51.0gr H4831, 120gr Hornady Interlock HP. Ruger MkII, 24" barrel. ACCURATE!
MV over the screens avg 2925-2950 fps. Pronghorn did not appreciate that load.
I know there are newer powders out there, but, mighty hard to beat the old proven loads.
 
As 44AMP said, there is a ton of data out there.
Do your research for the bullet you want to use, powder you want to use, and the velocity range you looking for, and do YOUR load workup for YOUR gun.
Don't forget to take your barrel length into consideration when looking at velocities.

Oh, and i own a 257 Roberts that i load to +P pressures with modern powders.
25-06 will kick it's butt in the velocity game with every bullet weight.

257 Weatherby is a different story.
