.243 to .223?

Is it possible to modify a .243 caliber rifle to shoot .223 cartridges? The rifle I'm thinking of modifying is a Rem. 7600.

Thanks

Nope.

You'd have to get a new bolt, barrel, check the feed mechanism and by the time you add up the bucks, your better off buying a new one.

In fact, you may very well not be able to get a barrel at all - IIRC, remington will not sell a barrel for the 7600.

Gunpark, it's possible but as Giz pointed out it's a conversion with everything going against it. For the barrel, the 7600 has a collar that comes off the actual barrel. A blank is then threaded and fit to match the headspace of the old barrel. The gas system is installed and there you have it. The big stopper here might be the bolt. If you want to discuss it, just e-mail me and we'll see what we can come up with. George
