first of all, does anyone have a source for cheap 243 brass? once fired is fine. besides that, i just got a tikka (.243). havent been able to go shoot it yet, and i probably wont have the opportunity for a week or two, but i was wondering if any of you have successfully used a 243 with 22 inch barrel and 10 twist at 1000 yards or further. any bullet/powder recommendations? ive been reading that the 10 twist theoretically wont stablilize the 105/107 grain bullets, but they do well for some people. im tight on money, so id prefer to use lighter bullets if its an option (if the heavies dont work, im out 30 bucks.) if i try them later and they do work at 100 or 200, is there any way to know if they will stay stable at longer range before shooting them?

http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/ My Rem 40x with 1-10 shoots the Berger 90 gr hpbt #24425 ok to 300 yds. I have not shot at longer range, other then wood chuck with Sierra 85gr hpbt. Its the length of the bullet more then weight. The 100 gr did not group as well as others shown.

I have a Savage M14 with sporter weight barrel, 9-1/2" twist that easily hits the 8" plates at 500 yards at Woodcock Rd. (New Bedford PD range). Load is 107 gr. SMK, Varget (not where I can look it up and don't want to quote charge from memory), Win. brass, CCI LR primers. Load clocks 2540 fps (15'), with ES = 43 fps, SD = 17.3 fps and CoVar = 0.68%.

Sierra says 107s "require 1x8" twist or faster," but that hasn't been my experience.

My daughters Mark X .243 will shoot those 100 grn Sierra Gamekings under an inch at 100, and I believe the barrel is a 22"-1-10" twist..?
My 243 has a 24"-1-7" twist McGowen barrel, Taylorce1 has shot it out to 300 yds but I haven't. Its twisted to shoot 115 grn Bergers and DTAC's, I've shot ten under a dime with it at 100 yds...with RL22.

I will mention this again, I pick up loads of .243 brass at my local range, when I go test loads or rifles.

As far as acquiring some cheep .243 brass you would probably be just as well off buying some new factory ammo and using the brass from them. If you can catch a good buy on ammo .243 is not that expensive as it is a very common round. I myself like to fire some factory ammo through a new gun to check it for problems anyway.
