243 and Wild Bore

Took out a few wild bores today with my 243 BRNO. To my surprise the bores dropped flat with one shot.

Does anyone else hunt wild bores or similar sized game with 243 Win.?

Lots of people use the 243 on wild boar with great results. Boar are not bulletproof. Pretty much any rifle capable of killing deer will kill wild boar very well.

BTW, this is a duplicate post.

Great round

I use my .243 weatherby vanguard on pigs here in Australia. It has never failed me with only the big ones taking a sprint of a few metres after a good lung shot. I use the hornady 100gr interlock soft point, pushing out at around 3000fps. For smaller game i use the 70gr sierra blitz king, i ahve dropped large billies and pigs with this load too.

I'm not sure exactly how a cartridge is judged adequate or inadequate. Seems to me that quick death after bullet strikes the vitals is a reasonable assumption of adequacy.

- 243 has the velocity and flat trajectory for very long shots

- 243 is available with Premium bullets for presumed enhanced performance

- 243 has been a huge success in the marketplace + cont'd growth is likely

My experience hunting boar is limited. I've hunted boar with 30-30 and .308 and experienced zero failures of acheiving quick death after bullet(s) struck the vitals.

Good hunting to you.

Just got a Simmons 3x9x50 scope for my BRNO. I am intending to use 243 upto 400 yards with the scope. Beyond that rage I think a bigger bore should be utilized.

I really like 243 caliber. I wish some semi autos were available here in Pk in 243, preferably in AR platform.

hog killer

I've killed some very large hogs with my 243 I use 85gr sierra bthp bullets only one required an extra shot that was do to a poorly placed first shot (boy did it make him mad) I learned that day that hogs hate lousy shots. I am convinced that a 22 short in the right place is more deadly than the biggest knock em flat warp speed magnum in the wrong place. Shoot enough gun but only up to what you can shoot well.

Me too. One of the biggest hogs I ever killed was dropped at about 20 feet with head shots from a Ruger 10/.22 rifle. I often kill hogs with a .223 and a .22 Hornet. The sporting cartridge has not been made that will turn a gut shot into a bang flop every time.
