Hello, anyone load the 95gr Nosler Ballistic Tip using H4350?

I have some H4350 that I use for some 30-06 loads and a box of these bullets and wondered if anyone has experience with this bullet/powder combo.

It will be used primarily for coyote but maybe deer also. The rifle is a Rem 700 ADL with a Weaver Classic K6 in Warne PA mounts.

I know there are differing opinions for what is best in the 243 for hunting these two but this is what I got and I want to simplify it to one load for both...thanks for any advice on best loads...JJ

Been using IMR4350 with a Speer 90 grain FMJ for eons. Difference between the H and IMR with a 95 is less than 100 FPS and a grain or less of powder.
Wouldn't use a BT for Wiley if the hides matter to you(the Speer FMJ makes a puncture hole). Bambi'll be in the freezer.

I use h4350 for my 243, both the 95gr Sierra match king and the 95gr nosler ballistic tip.

95gr Sierra match kings
39.5gr h4350
Winchester brass
Winchester large rifle primers
2.790" col (rem 700 sps mag length)

100yard 5 shot group was .28 something...I posted the target a while back.

95gr nosler ballistic tip
42gr h4350
Winchester brass
Winchester large rifle primers
2.700" col

5 shot 100 yard group was around .350"

Looks to be seated way out. Probably depends on my throat length.

The Hodgdon manual lists 42 grains as max but seating length is 2.650. Not sure of their other components. I do have WW cases but only Rem 9 1/2 primers

The tightest groups I ever shot were with Sierra 85 grain GK HPBT and 37.5 IMR 4064, WW case, Rem 9 1/2 seated 2.650. But I am out of those bullets and powder.

T O'Heir- It is actually not legal to use FMJs for deer in Pa.

I developed the loads using 2.650", found which one shot the best, then played with the overall length to see if I could tighten up the groups. The lengths I used are a result of that, you can definitely use the 2.650" length and test, then tweak them to see how better or worse they'll perform.

I used H414 with Nosler 95BT in a Rem 700 ADL for an antelope hunt several years ago. After filling my tag the first day with a nice buck, the ranch manager invited us to kill all the coyotes we could. Over the next 1 1/2 days, I shot 3 yoties between 100 and 510 yards. Bullet performance was adequate for both antelope and coyotes.
While prepping for the hunt, I got groups as small as 2" @ 400 yards with the average at or below 1MOA.

I used almost the identical load that PCTech posted out of my Win Mod 70.

My results were so close to his, they could be the same targets. On a dead calm day when things were right, 3/8" 5 shot groups at 200 weren't uncommon either.

I loved the load, just wasn't overly impressed with the results on deer. The first large doe I shot with one I aimed right in the curl of the shoulder and just as the trigger broke she took a step and the onside leg bone took the hit first, the result was what could best be described as laying the deer on it's side and using a 3# coffee can to cut a hole across the chest. What was left of both heart and lungs dropped and she ran close to 80yds straight into a huge oak tree. I thought well it was a solid impact and could have just been the result of that leg bone. Two deer later and I decided that wasn't the case.

That was however when they first had come out with them and were getting many complaints about similar performance. According to Nosler they redesigned things to make the "Hunting" line of BT's more controlled. I can't say one way or the other. I'm still loading the old Solid Bases till they run out.

Great replies all...I might try some H414 when I use up the H4350. I have about one and a half pounds of H4350.... Also, H414 is good for some 30-06 loading. I probably will try the 42 grain load as I got the powder.

I have some Varget which I load for 30-30, 300 SAV and some '06 but I found mixed reviews on Varget and the 243.

"...not legal to use FMJs for deer in Pa..." Isn't most places either(really daft thing is it's legal here in Ontario. Daft laws say "any centre fire". That includes stuff like .17 Rem etc.). Is for Wiley and other varmints though. Commercial FMJs are not the same thing as military ball anyway. Point is that if you're hide hunting a Speer FMJ makes a wee puncture hole vs blowing a great big hide ruining hole like a light varmint bullet.
No Match Kings or other match bullets for hunting anything but varmints either.
"...only Rem 9 1/2 primers..." Those will do.

"all lead bullet or ball, or a bullet designed to expand on impact"-straight from the Pa. Hunting and Trapping Digest everyone gets when they buy a license, same for bear. For Elk must use a "27 caliber" 130 grain minimum (12 GA, 50 cal ML, minimum 210 grain ball or bullet) There are minimums for Archery also.

I think FMJs are legal for fur bearers since it doesn't mention any restrictions only trappers are limited to 22 RF handgun or rifle..

You might get away with hollow point Match Kings. I shot a big woodchuck with a 168 grain Match King from my 30-06 at about 100 yards and the animal looked as if it had just been hit with a grenade....

NHSHOOTER, I doubt if I could improve upon my 4064 load with the 85 HPBT but if I get around to getting some more of those bullets I'll give it a try.

I shot a groundhog on our farm, my range finder showed 412 yards. Loaded a 95gr match king, took aim and fired. Hog went down, and was destroyed. The ground hog looked like a butterflied pork chop. Completely annihilated him.

oh and as side note, on my gun if I am zeroed for the 95gr match king, the 95gr Nosler load is 1inch high and 1inch to the left of zero of the match king. Pretty easy transition between the two.

Hello, anyone load the 95gr Nosler Ballistic Tip using H4350?

I've used Nosler 95gr BT bullets for years in my 243 but I load mine with 44grs of IMR 4831.
With this load my old Remington 700 BDL Varmnint ( heavy barrel) shoots 3/8 inch groups at 100 yards.

Best Regards
Bob Hunter
