I recently conducted my first 3 weeks of Australian Army recruit training. This of course means that I trained and used the Steyr Aug.
Also during the training we used 24 grain 5.56mm amo (F1 ball, brass case, 24 grains of Nitrocellulose compound, steel/lead projectile with copper jacket), and that is the standard round for the Aus. Army for both the Aug and the FN Minimi.
So basically how does a 24 grain round compare to 55,63 or 69 grain 5.56mm ammo?

You are comparing apples to oranges, the 24 grains you are refering to is powder weight, whereas the 55,62, and 69 grains are bullet weights.

I am guessing that the Australian Army uses the SS109 NATO standard which is a 62 grain bullet.

A 24 grain bullet would overstabilized to the point of great inaccuracy, in 1/7 or 1.9 rifling.
