Very interesting!!! There is a very good article on this on www.tacticalshooter.com , october issue. Two comments: they could easily use a heavier barrel to solve the "thin chamber requires a proprietary steel alloy" problem, and, if bolt shear strengh is a problem why not use the much stronger AR10 or Stoner 308 rifle as a base? (just like the AR15 receiver is used for 40, 9mm and 357sig conversion). This would also provide thicker mags for better staggering of the rounds.

Interesting, but I notice that nowhere was there any independent chronograph data. The developer's data was accepted. Even at 60,000 psi chamber pressure, I'm dubious about the claimed velocity.

Even if it worked as claimed, the recoil would be--shall we say--notable. I know what 180-grain bullets near 3,000 ft/sec are like from an 8-lb gun--not fun. To shoot this thing as a rapid-fire semi-auto would require a good muzzle-brake. Without significant hearing protection, shame on the shooter!

It looks like a solution in search of a problem...

OK, I looked at the article, and I have to ask the question, why? For it's intended use, the AR is plenty effective in .223. I know that there is a faction that's always searching for the most powerful cartridge, just for the bragging rights, but I can't see what this rifle brings to the party. If I want a long range, hard hitting cartridge, it sure won't be a stubby .45 cal roundnose round!

I saw another article about this LeGendre guy. He does a .338 conversion on M1A's and a .50 AE conversion on M1's.

Pretty amazing, but maybe a bit to wild for widespread use.

And I thought my (proposed) Garand in 35 Whelen was pretty far out!

Seriously, for a carbine in something like a .45 ACP, I'd rather go for a .45 Winchester Magnum. Seems perfect for a carbine.
