.22LR sighting

What the standard (if there is a standard) range for sighting/zeroing a .22LR? Through some reading I've done it seems that for target/competition that 50 yds. is standard and for field/hunting situations 20-25 is good (expecting slight rise around 50 and back on zero at 70-80, falling slightly low at 100)
Is there any rules of thumb or is it all a matter of personal preferance?

Personal preference more than anything & depends on what you'll be doing. & it'll matter what ammo you're feeding your shooter too.

I use 22s mostly for small game hunting & general plinking - sight in right at 25 yards. Most shots are right at 25 (to make no difference) or so, with some to 50. At 50, I do have to hold over "a tad."

You're pretty much in the ball park re "slight rise at 50 ... " For all practical purposes, a 25 zero gives me a +/- 1" point blank range to 70 yards or so with CCI MiniMags out of a 10/22

I zero at 50 yards on an indoor range (no wind! :)), check it outdoor at 50, and find that standard velocity is 5" low at 100 and High Speed is 4 inches low for the brands I use.
