Looking at Walther P22 (5"), Browning Buckmark, CZ75 kadet. The Beretta NEOS looks interesting. A used S&W 22 maybe. I have Rugers in 9mm and .45, so I'd like a different manufacturer. I'll be checking out the used racks at local gun shops too.

Even though you "have Ruger's in other calibers", I'm going to have to recommend the Ruger MK-II anyway. :) It's a tank, and a tackdriver to boot. If you're willing to buy used, you can get them for less than $200, but $300 will easily get you a number of Ruger MK-II models.

BUckmark

Buy the Buckmark. I've had one for 15 years and it almost always goes to the range with me. I never have problems with it.

Of those you've listed I'd recommend the Buckmark by all means. IMO the sights and trigger on a P22 are not even in the same league as the Buckmark. Have never shot a CZ Kadet so I can not comment.
Take Care

Or for a little over $300 you get a CZ75 then spend $250 more for the Kadet converson. You have a great 9mm and .22 for under $600.

None of the above

I've been a longtime fan of the Ruger Mark II line, and I always recommend them to folks looking for a good .22 pistol.

However...

You really should check out the Baikal IZH-35M. It's about the same price as the "competition" Ruger .22 but it comes with anatomic grips. I added anatomic grips to my Ruger and they make all the difference in the world.

The IZH redefines "tackdriver" and you'll never find a better value.

I should mention that the price is under $400.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd swap my trusty Ruger Competition with Fung grips for that IZH.

I know what it's like when you want a new gun & you know you want a different manufacturer but your best option is w/ the manufacturer you already own...I'm voting RUGER too ;) Mine has done nothing but provide years of reliable function & fun shooting!

I'm also looking for a .22 autoloader, to use in target competion. I've been looking at Ruger and S&W, I've shot a MK II, know what they're like, but I'm kinda drawn to the Smith model 22A, with target grips. It felt good in my hand and comes ready to accept a scope. The shop doesn't have a model 41, so I wasn't able to compare. Anyone have the 22A, if so opinions please?
Torquemada, sorry to jump in on your thread!;)

The 22a is a very accurate pistol. Some shoot as good as the 41.

The problem with the 22a is that so many people have parts break.

I have seen several of these that were really screwed up badly.

I would never buy one.

The Buckmark would be my choice.

I have a Buck Mark and a Ruger MK II. I would go with the Ruger. I like the stainless KMK 512. It's $290 where I am.

Have owned and shoot many Rugers and "tanks" is a good description. Especially the bull barrels.
Can't imagine how you could ware (sp) one out. They are a challenge to dis/assemble so after the first try I quite doing it all together.
I belonged to one club and some of the fellows that shot there hadn't cleaned theirs in 5 years except to swab out the bore and put a drop of lube here and there once in a while. Funny thing is the 2 SS models (2) I had never were as accurate as the blued pistols.

Never a prob otherwise with the Rugers. Can't say a thing about the Buckmark, or Smith. They are likely great pistols. The CZ Kadet has had good reports but I have yet to shoot one. CZs as a rule are great products and the 600$ mentioned will get you 2 great guns in 1 in all likelyhood.

That Baikal.....someday I'm going to a show or shop and wind up with one. Just know it. Cool.

Buckmark!

I often allow new shooters to shoot my Buckmark micro and they always comment on how easy to shoot it is. Then I back up to about 30 yds and they say "you can shoot can shoot a handgun that far?" and I proceed to knock down a row of cans! I love that Buckmark!! It doesn't like Federal ammo though. (or AE). Feeds best w/Remmington. Btw i have c-more red dot on it that really makes it fool proof!

Day 1 search

Browning Buckmark: with TruGlo $340 NIB, good fit in hand

Walther P22: both barrels but NOT the SE, $450 or $470 (got bowled over by the $$$). Real nice fit with 3.42" bbl, tiny, almost toylike size; fits my hand VERY well but I'd not want to hand it to a new shooter BECAUSE it's hard to believe it's a real gun.

S&W 41: quoted "over $800"...I didn't bother to get it out of the case. No used S&W 21's.

They had four or five High Standards but I was pretty sure they'd be well over my budget.

Day 2 of the "odd-I-see" tomorrow....

Thanks for the replies.
