.22LR for newbie female

I'm a dad! Well, I mean, in the sense, one of the women I took to the range has loved the experience so much, she has asked me to accompany her to buy her first gun. She loves me Ruger 22/45, and so I'll probably recommend she buy that, but be that as it may... I know a good Buckmark is always on the short list of great 22's. I was reading a few threads that asked the same thing..

But I just wanted to ask and make sure there wasn't a gun that might be more ergonomically designed for a female hand, that I don't know about.. Otherwise, I'll take her to buy a 22/45. I love mine... So give me some suggestions of other guns to look at...

Thanks.
Albert.

Buckmark Micro---my wife loves hers.

Beware the Ruger .22/45 and the way it ejects hot brass. For some reason, the .22/45 ejects spent cases out an angle the spins them off of side stops and they end up dropping into the areas of girls that,,,,well,,,makes them girls, ;).

For more detail, do a search for branded booby dance.

Also hard to go wrong with a nice MKII ruger, with the shorter, tapered barrel... (I'd recommend stainless, so she has an easier time cleaning it)

and "branded boobies" aren't quite such an issue w/ the MKII... (for some odd reason)

"the female hand"? How many fingers does she have? Granted, I don't know much about women, but... JK - I suppose you just mean small hands. The Phoenix .22 is cheap and has several safeties; might be good for a beginner for this reason; I hear good reports on it here on TFL; comes with 2 bbl lengths in a cheap package. How anyone in good conscious can recommend buyer a Ruger and thereby contributing to the anti-RKBA forces, I'll never know. Ostriches come to mind. Buy a Ruger if you wish your money to go to urging Congress to pass gun bans, because that's what they do. Please do a search or ask me if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Futo, don't worry, as a prune on TFL, I know what you are talking about.

Here's the problem I have with most of this stuff..

Your assessment of buying a Ruger = contributing to congress having more bans on certain aspects of guns. I can agree to that.

BUT, what if it was::

Buy a Ruger, or don't own a gun? Then what would the play be?

I'm a fan of the buckmarks, and I have found they generally fit in women's hands better than the Rugers, and my ex-gf had a "boobie burner" a few times with the 22/45 and so I know what you all are talking about also... Be that as it may, I think I will make recommendations, and let her decide.

I have done the whole "Don't buy a S&W because of this politics, don't buy a Ruger because of that politics etc.." and the girl ended up saying well those are the only two I liked, so I'm not going to get a gun period. And I think that is the ultimate result I don't want to have...

How Phoenix got a good reputation I can't imagine! All samples I've seen were inaccurate and unreliable (magazines made of soft, unsuitable metal). The 6" barrel was actually worse than the 2". Multiple safeties are complex and non-intuitive. I'd advise to get a Ruger Mk2 or a Browning Buckmark.

Colt's Match Target Woodsman, cuz it just about fits
everybody's hand well.:D  :)
