I don't see much on this forum about the venerable 22 caliber rifles.......I have given up most of my big bore firearms and switched my interests to 22 caliber military look a likes.....Please!! I didn't say "Tacticool", but mean the new crop of firearms that are gaining in popularity......

I still have a few big bore hunting rifles and a number of hand guns.....I shoot a lot so ammo costs were worrisome on my retirement resources.....My grand sons did not like recoil or the loud muzzle blasts so I switched to 22 cal.

A few of my 22 look a likes.

What a cool collection that you have! Very nice, and kudos to you for thinking of the kids. I too try to be prepared for the little guys (& gals) which get to come shooting at times.

I have been neglecting my 22 collection. I only have the one 10/22 rifle. I made it up para-military (BC folding stock, better peep sights, sling, and a flash hider!) because when I got it, everyone was putting on the bull barrels and all and I wanted to have something a little different.

Your collection inspires me greatly! Super cool 22's, any one would make a fine addition to a collection. Which one is most accurate? Which one is the most kid-friendly overall?

Don't forget a handgun for the little guys. My Bearcat is utterly kid-friendly, being sized just for their hands, and stoked with CB Shorts for no muzzle blast and low noise.

One nice thing about this hobby is the shear number of directions that it can take - all dependent on individual tastes and budgets. I have no plans to sell off my centerfire AR15s and M1a etc but I also can't afford to blow off $100-200 worth of ammo every month much less every week. That's why I bought a S&W M&P15-22 to act as a low cost training and practice stand-in for my 5.56 and 6.8SPC AR15s. And I moved from medium range (200yds) precision target shooting to 50yd 22LR precision target shooting. I find one ragged hole groups at 50yds to be just as satisfying as 1" groups at 200yds and I can shoot a whole lot more and more often. Match grade 22LR may not be cheap ($0.09-0.36/rd) but it's a whole lot cheaper than match grade centerfire ammo.

But I still enjoy taking my centerfire ARs and custom Mini-14 to the range now and then.

I have been having a lot of fun shutting my 1022 takedown rifle. It's about the length of a carbine in bigger calibers, and with the 25 round magazine it can have a tactical feel. I really like it as a .22LR all around rifle.

Love .22lr. My 10/22 is by far the gun I shoot the most due to the ammo cost and shear fun it provides. Every time I go in the woods chances are my 10/22 is in my pack with me. Right now I have a bushnell trs-25 red dot, valqaurtsen match hammer and exact edge extractor, and a couple bx-25 mags on it.
