.22LR ammo with highest muzzle velocity?

What .22LR ammo has the highest muzzle velocity?

I know that according to Winchester their 40 grain Powerpoint rounds have a muzzel velocity of 1280fps, is there anything higher?

QuikShok is reputed to be one of the fastest. I had way too many misfires with it though so I won't use it.

PreserveFreedom, were your misfires with the original (don't remember the mfgr) Quik-Shok or the new CCI stuff? I used the original stuff for a while (no primer failures), but have just purchased a bunch of the CCI. Hope I'm not going to be sorry!

Rimfire Central

Chief Dave at Rimfire Central has done chrono tests. He says CCI stingers are faster and Aguila claims to the contrary are full of crap.

Chief Dave is a visionary, whose word is good enough for me.

Regards.

If you hold up a Stinger next to any other .22LR you'll find that the Stinger has a longer cartridge length to hold more powder.

If you want high velocity and a full 40gr bullet then IMO the Winchester PowerPoint is the best way to go. The hyper velocity .22s achieve their speed by substituting light weight bullets and in my experience they all tend to have very poor accuracy - 3" to 4" 10-shot groups at 100yds with a standard factory barreled 10/22.

For plinking and hunting I've standardized on the HP PowerPoint in all my .22s. It has one of the highest published velocities with a 40gr bullet (though I still need to verify that with my Chrony), and more importantly their accuracy is excellent - sub 2" groups at 100yds. -- Kernel

They were with the CCI version. Now, I was shooting them in a cheap rifle, but this rifle never misfired any other kind of ammo on me. All it takes is unreliability in any of my guns for me to lose faith.

I have to agree with Kernel. I have found that the Hyper Velocity rounds leave a lot to be desired in the accuracy department in my rifles. The WW Power Points are my high velocity round of choice. My Ultra Light Arms Model 20 is match chambered so I can't really test the Stingers in my most accurate rifle. But in my Kimber and Anschutz rifles, it never performed up to my accuracy standards. I agree with Ledbetter that unsubstanuated velocity claims are just that, unsubstanuated. But I've found that there are not many .22 rimfire situations I can't resolve with the Power Point. In fact, for most grey squirrel hunting my favorite is the Federal 900 B, a subsonic target round. It is very quiet in the woods, and very accurate.

and I agree with you . . .

That Winchester Power Points make fine fodder for most any .22, and more humane for the squirrel than most.

I use Stingers in my Beretta 21A shorty, and my Ruger 10/22 "squirrel gun." Hydra Shoks didn't have any accuracy in my guns.

o darn i just ordered a brick of aguila super max well i will try them out i dont have a chronograph but i will see how terrible the accuracy is.

Deadman, CCI Stinger has the highest (practially proven) velocity
of approx. 1,600 ft/sec. from rifle barrel.

k77/22rp,

Don't despair, .22 rimfires are such finicky beasts concerning ammo, your rifle could shoot them very well. I've seen some rifles shoot the Hyper Velocity very well and while the Aguila may not shoot at published velocities, it could be fine in your particular rifle (or pistol). CCI did change the bullet configuration on the Stingers some years ago. I have not tried them in a long time, I was just giving my experiences.

Amen, Brutha...

Amen to JB in SC for all my Exact Thots on my personal experience with 22LR.....velocity doesn't always equal Accuracy...I ,too, am a fan of Federal's "good stuff".....

The Stingers are a little lacking in the accuracy department, so are the Remington Vipers. When it comes to accuracy Remington Standard Velocity LR's, or the Remington Target in MY rifles are hard to beat. Different rifle can be a different story.

I am still experimenting with flavors for my 10/22.
In my case, the plain-jane Federal 40 gr RN are winning in the heavy bullet department, but in 36 gr the Rem Cyclone HP hold their end in accuracy.
Still have to try the CCI, thought.
Oh well, will have to do some more shooting!
:)

I can confirm the Aguilla Super Max 1750 fps. But I can also confirm its lack of accuracy. It is definately the fastest factory .22 LR round. They are very unpredictable.
