22LR/22Mag

Can 22 LR be fired in a 22 Mag revolver?

Only if the gun is one with both a long rifle and a mganum cylinder.
Otherwise it isn't a good idea at all to even try it.

The .22 mag cartridge itself is slightly larger (fatter) than a .22lr.
Using the smaller (thinner) cartridge in the larger (fatter) chamber can result in the case splitting.

My very first gun was a Harrington and Richardson 22 with interchangeable cylinders. I made the mistake of using the magnum cylinder to fire the long rifle. The casing shattered in the cyclinder. I'll never make that mistake again.

I have a .22WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) Deringer. It was stolen. It was recovered and I had to go to court to testify that it was mine. At the conclusion of the trial, the judge kindly wrote out the order to return the Deringer to me. I went to the evidence room and they gave it back to me. I was amazed to find it loaded with .22shorts. One barrel had been fired. The little .22 short case was split from rim to trim. Glad it wasn't me who shot it. I often wonder how much gas blew back into the firers face. Quantrill
