I just purchased a used 228. I would like to have the pistol refinished. I called the factory and they said they only refinish the slides on pistols. No frame refinishing according to SIG customer service The person mentioned that it may compromise the integrity of the frame. I lack experience in metallurgy and I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me. I think I have heard that aluminum can weaken after being stressed over time (the airplane that ripped open in midair was caused by structural weakening due to cabin pressurization also my TREK mountain bike). Does anyone think Metacol III or any similar finish would have ill effects on the frame as well? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/opinions.
