.223 Sweetness

Was shooting my Remington 700 this afternoon (off the patio ~ while the wife was visiting her sister) and found we really get along well with the Hornady 55 grain Soft Points. Scored good hits on golf-balls on the far side of my (dry as a bone) pond. :D

Tried several different scopes on this one but settled on a Burris 2x-7x 35mm, and it's working out really well. Still liking the Levang linear comp too!

Really, my M700 SPS Tactical seems to like the heavier loads around 70 Grain. Do our rifles have the same 9" twist?

The Vortex Diamondback and Crossfire scopes are good for the money. Not sure what you are wanting to spend, but stepping up to the Viper model you get great glass and the no questions asked lifetime warranty.

I can look and see what we have at work if you have a budget and magnification range in mind.

lcpiper,

Don't know if they are the same, but mine has a 1/9" barrel... haven't tried any heavy bullets in it yet, may be it'll shoot even better, though I'm not much for punching paper.

Still, I like the way it shoots with the 55 gr JSPs, and they can be had for a reasonable price.

p_s,

I remember you mentioning the Vortex before... I've been looking, but haven't decided... max magnification will be limited to 9x. I can't hold it steady enough to use more, and even 9x sometimes looks like I've been drinking... heavily. :D

Based solely on your exuberant praise (and your implied promise to refund my money if I don't like it :D ):
I ordered a Vortex Diamondback 3x-9x 40mm with their BDC reticle this morning... should be here next week (before the holiday, I hope).

this scope was just suggested to me for my Vepr Super in .223 as well, and I had a chance to fiddle with it. need to research more. nice looking rifle! my buddy just took delivery on his in .308. he doesn't have anything on it at all yet, though (rail, rings, scope, break, etc).
