I had heard that this was good ammo but there is a thread over on AR15.com where several people are complaining about seeing a lot of split cases with S&B. Anyone have any problems with it lately. I just ordered 1000 rounds yesterday before I saw the thread from J&G because I had heard nothing but good things about the brand.

Never had a problem with it.....in fact, I rather like it. I saw that thread too, and I'm not sure I believe it. Been through a lot of it without fail.

Steel guilded jacket

Copper flash plated...........
Never seen ANY Sellier & Bellot, that wasn't that way...........
Tougher on your tubes, and will wear faster......
As Iron sharpens Iron, so Steel will wear Steel......
If you ever have picked up a fired flash plated steel guilded jacketed bullet, you will see the rifling cuts through ther copper, and exposes the underlying steel...this is what you rifling is being subjected to.

I asked Alex Robinson of Robinson Arms this question, and here is the reply I received:

Most of the ammunition I use has some steel in the guilding material. It may reduce the life of the barrel a little. The good thing is: You can change the barrel if you do wear it out!

That being said, I would only use brass cased ammo made to SAAMI spec. with your rifle. I've had some guys screw up their rifle with Wolf ammo.

I shoot alot of green box S&B, wasn't aware of the steel core until tshoes pointed it out to me one day. Glad I want to rebarrel in the future, certainly would be a consideration for the budget conscious.

That said, from my preban DPMS prone with a sling it will shoot 1 moa all the way to 500 yards, and just playing one day found that it will shoot an easy minute of bad person to 800. Not real bad all things concidered.
