Federal American Eagle 223s come in boxes of 20, in a black box. Some boxes say AR223 (ae223h) and the other type in similar bow says TACTICAL. They both are 55 gr. FMJ. Bith about the same price. Anyone know the difference, or does one do something better than the other??

Yeah, they labeled the "Tactical" boxes for the idiots who won't buy anything except "Tactical" guns, knives, clothing, bacon, etc.

Seriously, if the "Tactical" boxes aren't labeled "5.56mm" then they're probably the same as the boxes labeled ".223." PMC does essentially the same thing in that they produce "PMC Bronze" .223s with 55-gr FMJ bullets, and also "PMC X-Tac" .223s, which are supposedly more dependable for service use. I've never observed any difference in the two.

mmmmm tactical bacon.

Is this the box you're seeing?

If so, it is a 5.56 loading vs a .223 loading and should in theory be a little faster.

This is the box I bought two of, 100 rounds each box
labeled 223 REM

I think that's just marketing packaging and its probably the same as the regular boxes of AE 223. I know the know the xm193 stuff is a 5.56 loading(reference). But they sell the regular AE .223 stuff in a similar box. Just curious as to which you had. Oddly enough federal says nothing specific about any of the black box stuff on their regular website or the atk website.

Yeah, just trying to keep the discussion focused on the topic without the throwaways on tactical bacon and glue.

AE223H is the number off the AR233 labled box, I don't have a box of the tacticals, so I don't know the part number. Yeah the word tactical sounds like a sales cartch thing, but I read reviews about people raving about its accuracy for the money is good. The boxes are identical w/ the eagle on front, other than a word or two. Federal calls the tactal their premium. I also read that its made w/ lake city brass, ehatever that is? But when I called to order some, the sales person had to read me some script saying it's no longer made w/ lake city, and thatr it's theitr new commercial brass. ?
