Recently purchased a Golani Sporter and a SAR-3 both in .223, what recommendations does this forum have for success with these rifles.
Include Ammo, Magazines, Maintenance, Troubleshooting issues, and general info...

If it's a Century Arms Golani it's hit or miss if it functions properly. If you have any trouble at all and it's a Century I'd dump it.:o

For a SAR-3, you have two main choices of mags. Best are the "Weigar" steel mags. CDNN had them last time I looked, which was a while ago.

Your other option is Bakelite mags, which are really 5.45X39 mags. If you don't replace the follower with a "Robarms" follower (From Robinson Arms) and file the feed lips a little (to look like a Weigar Mag) you won't have good reliability with those mags. And that what' Century was shipping with them for a while. Looks like that's what you have in your pic.

I got my SAR-3 when they first came out. It has been utterly reliable. When cold, it shoots 2 MOA, but when warm, it opens up to 4-5MOA. Love mine.

I love my golani but it had a couple issues out of the box I've dealt with...

Flash hider was loose, used some lock-tite
Main thing was not much tolerance for a mag with forward movement, caused "ride-overs". I fixed by putting some jb weld on the tab on the back of each mag so they lock up tight with no forward wabble and it runs great since.

The golani may not be my go-to gun but compared to the price of a real galil, they are a bargain for any collector.

As for your comment on the Golani I have:
A Saiga 308 AK, a SAR-1 7.62x39 AK, SKS 7.62x39 in a folder Stock, a Romak 2 5.45x39 AK74, the SAR-3 .223 AK and the .223 Golani. So I have the calibers well represented. A real Galil would have cost as much as the rest combined. I'm not an operator, I just want a nice simple collection. I still need a PSL for the missing 7.63x54R!
