I saw a post (I thought here on tfl) for 1000 rds of green tip that an online retailer was selling for $300, it may now be expired but I can't for the life of me find it here or through google. Ca anyone point me to it or am I just nuts.

the only place I've seen with $300 per1000 green tip is natchesz and it's $600 per 2000 round crate if you buy at least 2 crates so if you have need of 4000 rounds of green tip then there's your 300 per 1000 lol.
 
PMC XTAC is my favorite every day ammo in 223/5.56. Sale price of around $299 is pretty common.
