Interested in buying a 22 mag rifle. respectfully request suggestions/comments about the various models available i.e. accuracy, functioning & of course reliability. Thanks

I've owned a Savage 93 and Marlin 25MN, both are excellent choices for a bolt action .22 WMR. I sold the Marlin and am letting my daughter shoot the Savage. I went back to the .223 as I can handload ammunition for not much more than I can buy the high velocity .22 WMR rounds using the lighter bullets 30 grains or less. If you are going to stick to 40 grain bullets out of a WMR then ammuniton isn't that bad.

both the savage and marlin are good choices. i have a marlin 25m bought before the remington takeover that shoots sub moa. i would do some research on the new "rem-lins" and see if they are having any quality issues. i havn't heard of any on the marlin 22 line but i would check anyway. i don't own a savage but i understand their 22 mags are top notch.

I had a Marlin Bolt Action .22 Mag for a while. It was a very accurate dependable rifle and i regret ever letting it go.

You will hear this many times Savage or a Marlin-flip a coin.BTW I am partial to the Savage a wee bit more. Cliff!:D

Just stay away from semi-auto .22 Mags and stick with a brand name -- Rem-lin trigger weights have officially gone up and expect 7-lb. pull OTB, but they have decent shooters for decent prices for what they sell including adjustable trigger now. They have this nice wood one, and their regular barrels are heavy enough and very well made (gotta love that "micro-groove" rifling) or a more range/bench-oriented heavy-barrel stainless synthetic thing (I LIKEE!).

Henry has a .22 Mag octagon barreled pump-action people are very enthusiastic over and the barrel length is ideal. Ruger. Savage. Thompson. Cooper... I'll stop.

Many good ones out there, this is the one I liked:

I have a Marlin .22 Mag. Model 982S I think is what it is which unfortunately I don't believe is made any more. They still make variations of the 982 (such as a VS) but the 982S had the SS barrel and really nice fiber-optic sights on it.

The gun has been fabulous, I love it. Great shooting, amazingly accurate, and I really like the .22WMR cartridge. I considered both the .17HMR and the .22WMR when buying this rifle. I am really glad i decided on the .22 magnum over the .17HMR.

Favorite bullets: For target shooting, CCI MaxiMags in 40g FMJ; For plinking, Winchester Dyna-Points (45g plated HP); For pop can splat, either the Winchester Super-X (highest energy) or the Federal Game-Shock with it's 50g JHP bullet.

Picture of my beloved .22Mag with pop cans shot at 50 yds.

is that a marlin?

Yes it is. 22 Mag, stainless steel with micro groove rifling. Excelent shooter (very accurate) set to 100 yards as shown. I have to get to Texas for hunting some of those Jackalops.

I have a .22WMR CZ 455, bought like-new, but it wasn't as accurate as I wanted until pillar-bedding and tweaking the firing pin nose. The 452 has been discontinued and the 455 is a switch-barrel rifle. Barrels/etc. can be bought in .22LR, .17 HMR, or .22 WMR.

If I had to do it over, I'd look hard at the various Savage offerings. A friend has cheap one in .17 HMR and it shoots honest 1/2" groups at 100 yards.

CCI V-Max 30 grain bullets shoot best in my rifle, grouping under 1" at 100 yards.

My go-to rimfire, and my second most favorite rifle is my Marlin 882SS (older version of Pdgion's rifle). Bolt action, stainless steel, synthetic stock. I paid $160-180 for it, new (1998?), and have never looked back. It's ugly. It's rough. The stock is cheap. It is very muzzle heavy. But... it's accurate, reliable, easy to pack around, and just plain fun.

My 882SS has claimed more black-tailed Jacks, than any other rifle I own. It's a great choice. ;)

(Sadly, most of those were before I scoped it. Those iron sights were great.)

I'd suggest a Henry lever action .22WMR. I have a Nikon prostaff scope on mine and at 50 yards with the right ammo I get dime sized groups.

I have a Marlin model 980-DL Bolt Action .22 Mag Bought it new in 1969 have shot lots of rounds through it without a single problem.
