22 Shorts in 22LR?

Can I safely fire 22 shorts in my S&W revolver that normally fires 22 LR? How about my Ruger 10/22?

Many thanks

You can in your revolver, you CANNOT in your 10/22.

The 10/22 will not cycle the shorts, they will jamb everytime.

Over a long period of shooting shorts in your revolver, you can get a bit of lead buildup at the front of the chambers; this can make it a bit difficult to then load long rifles.

However, now that you know, it's quite easily remedied by paying a bit of extra attention to this when cleaning.

No worse than shooting .38 Special in a .357 Maggie.
