.22 Scope for a 10/22

I'm looking for a rifle scope for a friends 10/22. I also own one. I quickly decided to pull my scope off because I prefer the fine sighted iron sights. This person isn't really a shooter but wants a scope to thin out the cottontail population. I think simplicity I'd like to look at some fixed power scope. shot will mainly be less then 50 yards. Any of you gents have any suggestions?

I second that suggestion. Excellent scope with plenty of magnification for general shooting. For years, I mounted nothing but 4x scopes on my 22 rifles.

See if you can find an old steel tube Weaver K-4.

There is probably no better scope for that rifle. I have that on both of mine.

I put a K-6 on my Marlin 39a. Should have held out for a K-4.

I tend to be a variable freak and don't have any that are less than 3-9X, but have tried some 2-7x and they're a bit shorter/lighter.

Regarding mounts, the weaver dual-strap rings are junk!! I've had threads stripped with only moderate torque. They are second only to Tasco rings for stripping threads.

The standard Weaver Top Mounts are much more substantial. I like the four-screw rings much better than the older-designed, 2-screw ones. Filing the bumps off inside the rings will eliminate scope dents.

The Weaver Top Mount base is much stronger and made better than the one supplied by Ruger.

I'd also vote for one of the Simmons. I've had decent luck with Simmons scopes, even the cheaper models. It's the way I'd go.
