.22 revolver

I am thinking of buying a H&R 900 that I found in a gun shop for 190.00. It seams to be in good shape as far as I can see. Does anyone know of any major issues with this piece and sight unseen on your part, does it seem worth it?
Thanks for any replys. Phil

I;m no expert, but that seems kind of high. I just did a search and this was asked on another forum a while back and one of the fellows responding to the question put that the blue book value was $100.00 for 100% - meaning like new in the original box. Maybe some one else will chime in here and give a better idea.

I purchased a H & R 929 "Sidekick" a year or so ago - that model is a 9 shot 22 LR with a swing out cylinder and hand ejector. Mine has a 6" barrel and was in excellent shape but no box or original paperwork. I paid $125.00 for it as it was like new. It's a great shooter and accurate. I really like it.

If you're looking for a "plinker" - and a SA will fit your needs, I'd suggest looking at possibly a Heritage "Rough Rider" - for the same price or a few $ more, they are a nice, reasonably priced revolver that will work well for plinking and general use - American made and have a decent warranty. The link for them is

I don't know the condition, barrel length, etc. of the H & R you're looking at but if you really have your mind set on it, then I'd see if you couldn't dicker with the dealer - or I'd keep looking. Again, $190 seems high to me. Hopefully someone will chime in here and give a current blue book on it. Good luck and i hope your search works out for you. :)

Picing on H&R revolvers in very good condition has been going up. If you like the revolver, $190 might not be out of line. Some of the H&R's are getting prices in the $400-$500 range if you believe some of the postings.

H&R quality far exceeds that of a rough rider... I've been the caretaker of 2 H&R while a friend has been over seas. They are not the prettiest or fanciest guns but they are well built, and have earned my respect. Note: DA trigger pull is VERY heavy.

ones I've seen around here are going for around 200 the highest being 275 but that one was charcoal blued and case hardened.

Unless it is in excellent condition, I would say that is a little high, not really out of line though.
H&R's are definitely rising in value, especially the nice ones.

Just because they didn't have the 999 stamped on the frame, doesn't mean they weren't called the model 999.
There were some early models that weren't 999's though.
Includes the model 199 Single action Sportsman.
The model 777 Ultra Sportsman, and the model 196 Eureka Sportsman.
The double action Sportsman were called the 999 from it's introduction in 1932, I believe.
