22 Revolver

I am trying to decide between the "Taurus Tracker", "Taurus 94", and the "Ruger Super Single". I am aware the Ruger is a single action. This will be for plinking and very occassional rabbit hunting. I really like the Ruger and the 22Mag cylinder is a big plus, but I am concern about the loading 1 at a time and ejection process. I doubt if I would use the 22 mag option much. If the gun is sighted in for 22lr and then you switch to the mag cylinder, will the sights be even close? Has anyone had both the Ruger and Tracker? It just seems to me a afternoon of plinking with the Ruger may not be as fun with the reload process, but I love the look of the gun:) Thanks for any opinions.

Ive got a few ruger s/a's and after a few rounds you will get faster with it.The 2 s/a I have now are both single sixs. One old model 22 and a new 32 mag.Im not knocking taurus, ive got one myself, its just the ruger will hold its value better.

I haven't shot the Tracker but i own a Taurus 94. It's well balanced, accurate, reliable, has a fairly decent S/A trigger pull and what feels like a 25 pound D/A trigger pull (it's the only handgun i didn't dry fire before i bought it. I'll never make that mistake again).

If you plan on shooting S/A all the time the Taurus 94 would work okay.

The only advantage it has over the Ruger is it's a 9 shooter and it's easier to load and unload than the Ruger.

Personally i would go with the Ruger.

If your plinking sessions involve over one hundred rounds in less than an hour I would get a auto loader. Loading DA revolvers are slow as well.

I really like my single six. The sights are dead on with all the 22lr I have fired but I have never used the 22 mag cylinder so I don't know how the sights are regulated with 22 mag ammo. My single six is the 50th anniv. special edition and has a 4 5/8 (i think) bbl. and fixed sights. It is more fun than I ever thought it would be but it is for killin' time plinkin' NOT putting alot of rounds downrange. For that I use my MKII.

To me the single six is a fun gun. My Ruger MKII pistol is a real training tool.

To answer part of your origional question, the single six will shoot in a different place with the mag vs .22 lr ammo. How much different depends on distance and ammo used. The .22 mag is a NICE hunting round and fun to shoot. As for loading, it's not super fast but it's enjoyable . ( Your not in combat so SLOW down and enjoy :-) No experience with the new Taurus guns but i've had ALLOT of bad experience with older Taurus guns. I Love my (4) sing six's and wouldn't trade the worst of em for a NIB Taurus. ( That's JMHO) If i really needed the shooting or reloading speed, I'd go with a S&W 17/617 or a Ruger MK II Target .

If you give me an empty pocket and my S&W 35-1, a J frame 6 shot with a 6" target barrel, I will probably shoot my 100 shots before you have reloaded your 2 10 round mags 3 times, particularly if we start with unloaded guns, My range had a rule, No loaded mags until you get to the firing line and State Game land ranges allow only 3 rounds per mag.

Not that you brought it up Brian, I fully agree. This past summer I shot against a field of 11 semiautos in a 30 round .22 handgun match. I reloaded my 39' k-22 outdorrsman 5 additional times without a speed loader and still was not that last guy fireing in the alloted time. ( And took 2nd too :-) Since then, I've experimented some with K and J frame speedloaders and find I can reload my K-22's in 3 -4 sec consistantly. Even by hand, it's a pretty fast reload once you get used to it. As mentioned above, I normaly don't rush a reload but it can be fun to practice to stay sharp with it.

Well you guys are some fast revolver loaders. Congrats.

Granted my 22 revolvers are single action I guess my comments were to that effect.

Anyway I would rather load 50 at a time than 6 regarless of speed. I am tempted to try this out on the clock but I don't have a DA 22.
