Hi guys i have heard many times in my life someone say that a .22 pistol is the gun of a pro hitman.Any truth to this?I mean eveyone says that a .22 is not a good choice for defense,so why then is good for offensive use?If it won't stop a determined attacker why do the pro's use it?Why not a silenced 9mm or 45 auto?Or is that pure hollywood nonsense??I am not trying to discuss anything illeagal here just confirm things i have heard. Many people say that there is no need to even silence a .22 as they are not that loud. Thanks for any replies.

I don't know if they are the choice of pro hitmen or not but the Mossad(sp) sure used a lot of them to remove those not in their favor. Remember, a .22 behind the ear works just as well as a .45 in the chest. The supressor for a .22 is much smaller than one for a 9m/m or .45 making the entire set up easier to hide.

I've also read that the .22 was used because the bullet fired point blank bounces around inside the crainium to the point that it distorts to the degree that it could make it difficult to match a bullet to a gun. It could also have something to do with what gun a hit man wouldn't mind tossing in the river to get rid of?

Never met a hit man, mind you, but I've read Tom Clancy novels!

The CIA Black Book shows two. The first is a silenced old model (pre war) Colt Woodsman and a later silenced Ruger.
In the 1920's, the Chicago hit men who wanted a silenced pistol often chose a .30 Luger.
These pistols were chosen carefully, because they will not balk when fitted with silencers. Some others will not function semi-auto. The Luger works because it does not begin to open until pressure has dropped to zero. Ammunition for the .22 blowbacks has to be chosen carefully to allow certainty of function. Or, so I have been told by those who have used them.

The big difference here is cold blooded murder vs. stopping an attacker. Sure I can walk up behind someone and shoot them point blank in the back of the head ala Sammy the Bull and a .22 is all I need. That is a bit different from confronting a doped up maniac with a knife in the parking lot.

"I am not trying to discuss anything illeagal here ..."

The discussion of the tools of a "pro hitman" is, in fact, a discussion of illegal activities, no way to get around it. So this thread gets the old lockdown.
