I just wanted to show you all my 11 yr. old daughter's new gun. The C-More sights just came on the big brown truck, so her competition gun is complete. Our plan is to practice for a year or so then look for some area speed steel comps.

Just a comment that some folks prefer not to use that term because it can be misunderstood.

With that said, that is an interesting looking gun; I wish your daughter good shooting with it.

What?
To shooters, a Race Gun is a pistol modified to the greatest extent allowed for competition.
This ain't the BLM or DNC board.

We are in Eastern Ohio. Bailey has been shooting with me since she was 4 (pink Cricket). She hunts with me and harvested her 1st deer at age 9. We got her a S&W M&P compact .22 for Christmas and now started thinking about getting into competitions. This 22/45 Lite has some work from Majestic Arms. Speed strip, 2lb 3oz trigger, extended bolt and mag release, bolt racker, etc.

I've never heard the term "race gun" used in a negative way. Always thought of it as very complimentary.

Very cool gun, OP.

Don't waste an entire year. Once she has safe gun handling down head to the matches. She will learn more and not get burned out on Dad telling her what to do. Depending on her age she might even think she already knows more than you anyway.

Unless you already compete you might also might be teaching her things that would be counter productive or at least another thing to relearn. There are always folks to be beat at matches and beating an adult is more satisfying to a kid that just improving on their time.

Could be the difference between "Come on dad or we're going to be late!" Vs "Na, I don't feel like it, today."

Nice setup. Recently, I put a C-More on a new Mark iii Hunter, nice combination. Have couple more C-More's on on race guns: STI MatchMaster 9mm and Witness Elite Limited 9mm. Tried mounting a C-More on S&W Model 41, doesn't fit the new PC models' rails. Had a C-More on a Hammerli Xesse Sport using an optics bridge. The bridge tended to loosen. So, I have an Ultradot with 11mm dovetail rings on order for direct mounting. You might consider the Ultradot if the C-More doesn't work out for her. Both work well for me, but not all red dots work for all people.

The suggestion that she start competition right away is a good one. Over a 35+ years of competitive sailing boat racing, I learned more on the course than anywhere else. However, I also found sailing with a lot of different folks was a good learning experience.

Best of luck to her.

Agree so much.
A sad thing I see and hear so much, "I want to shoot comps but I have to practice to get good enough."
If she can operate the gun and follow instructions on safe handling and the course of fire, now is the time to start.

Thanks for the help. I found the one you're talking about g. willikers. It is 2hr and 17 min away but so far the closest I have found. They have a youth steel challenge in Sept. that I think we will be attending. Thanks again all.

Like jmorris says, don't wait. Match shooting is great fun and the two of you will meet some fabulous people. Not entirely sure that pistol would be a good thing for a new shooter though. Lotta basics need learning first. Mind you, the point is having fun and it'll do that.

Thanks for the advice but Bailey is not a new shooter. She is safe, responsible, and has been shooting for years. She has several rifles, shotguns, and an M&P 22 compact that she has been shooting for almost a year. She even shoots my bigger pistols and ARs.

With that kind of kid, big daddy needs to keep a close eye on the social media aspects. Good luck regarding all of the current options. She sounds like a real gem.
