.22 pistol: Ruger or Sig?

I am thinking of purchasing a new .22 semi-auto pistol. I've been looking at a Ruger 22/45 for about $205 shipped. Seen a Sig Trailside the other day, oooooooh. Does anybody own one of these Sigs? How do they compare to the Ruger? Are they worth almost twice as much as the Ruger? I know it's like comparing Corvettes to Corvairs, but is there that much of a difference? Any 22/45 owners out there? How do you like em?

I love my 22/45. I use it for training for friends and my wife. It really does let you feel like you are holding a 1911 model with the exception of the slide lock. The slide lock is not like other guns, but that is a good thing. You can not use it as a slide release. So it helps teach you a few good habits. Accuracy isn't really an issue with me, that is I am not looking for a one holer gun. I just wanted it to teach the basics, and plink cheap. It keeps up with my other guns for me shooting so I am happy. I have put over 1000 rds through it with no problems. The toughest thing about the gun is the break down and reassembly. There is a pin that has to be put back in right for the gun to work correctly. You cannot reach it by hand and must be put in place by gravity. Once you figure it out, it isn't hard to do it again, but that first time sucked. I could tell there was something wrong because the slide kept sticking when I racked it. Tooked it apart again and re-read the directions and it worked perfectly after that. My only complaint really.

Does $205 shipped sound like a reasonable price? 5 1/2" bull barrel, blue.

Sounds about right. Especially after the ups over charge crap. I think I would foot the extra 20 or 30 for the stainless. That is what I have is the stainless 5 1/2 inch bull barrel. Just less wear and tear to worry about.

I think if you have to ask the question about the Sig being worth twice the price, then budget does have importance, and you ought to go with the Ruger.
I couldn't be happier with mine. I do not have first hand experience with the sig, but I imagine it is better. But twice as good?
Doubt it.

muleshoe,
More like comparing a Honda Accord to a pickup truck, than a Corvette to a Corvair. The Sig is nice, but there are much better. The 22/45 is great, but it's greatness comes from it's association with straight grip guns like the 1911 and Hi Power, and it's truck like toughness. I retired my 22/45 after almost 2 years of heavy shooting ( a bit over 25,000 rounds). Takedown and reassembly of the 22/45 is much easier than the Mark II ( I own both), even though the mechanics are almost the same. My 22/45 is about the same, w/25K rounds, as it was the day it came home except for a little wear of the finish in 1 tiny spot. Function has been close to 100% w/the 22/45 and the only failures I had were ammo related, or due to an accumulation of dirt ( I shoot mostly Rem Thunderbolts, best described as filty). I haven't shot a Sig yet, but handled a couple of them. Nice gun, but the target supplied wasn't anything the 22/45 couldn't do. Early reports on the Sig are not too positive, with a lot of people complaining about reliability. Since I have yet to spring for a Sig, I have to rely on such hear-say to base a decision on. I believe a lot of the extra price for the Sig comes from: It's new, It's Sig and It's hard to get. With a little, it has potential with some trigger work, to shoot close to a Smith Mod 41, or a High Standard. The Rugers can only go so far, due to the design, as far as triggers are concerned. I recently handled a Ruger Mark II full blown Volquestern(sp), with a sub 1# trigger, priced at $600.00. With all the work, it wasn't up to a $700.00 Smith as far as trigger pull, and the Smith had a 3# trigger. ( There is light, and there is silky and light, w/just the right amount of crisp). Don't mean to downgrade the Sig, I want one big time! I just decided to wait a bit for the initial hoopla to drop, and the bugs to get worked out.

FWIW, I replaced the 22/45 with a Buckmark Camper. Same price as the 22/45, and a really nice pointable gun. So far I really like the Camper. I still love my 22/45, but feel it has earned a rest. My $.02 goes to the 22/45. With reasonable care, it should last several lifetimes. The stainless version, even longer. I figure at 25K rounds, mine is just about broke in. Buy the 22/45, and enjoy shooting it while you save up for the Sig. You can't have enough .22's.

RAE:
I got to looking at pictures of the Browning Buckmarks. I like what I see so far. Gonna go down and fondle a couple ASAP.

They are only about $20 more than the 22/45, so whichever feels best in my hand is probably gonna be my next pistol. I'm not after extreme accuracy in a .22 pistol, I just want it to go boom every time I pull the trigger. Anybody else have any experience with a Buckmark?
