My first guess is excessive headspace... But, this carbine is NEW! What's the solution? (besides detonate it :) ). Thanks and have a good weekend!

Take it back to where you bought it and explain the problem. They will send it back to Mfg for warranty repair.Or send it back yourself.

What kind of carbine is it? What ammo are you using? And what do you mean by "breaks cases"?

Taking it back is probably a good idea if that is convenient, but you can so some diagnosis yourself. For example (if it is not insulting to suggest it), firing .22 Long Rifle in a .22 Rimfire Magnum chamber will cause bulged and split cases.

No offence taken. This is a 22 lr carbine, and I've fired 22 lr ammo... I'm trying to 'gauge' the carbine with a 22 magnum dummy, just in case the factory stamped the wrong caliber in the action....

It would help if you told us the make and model of the carbine and type of action.

More and better help can be given with more information.
