Quick and simple, have a 10/22 that my 11yr old is crazy accurate with. Its to big for my 7yr old. Looking at a few options to catch a sale today, that both my kids and the wife and I will enjoy.

Ruger SR22
Ruger MKIII Target
Ruger 22/45 Lite
Walther P22
Sig 1911 22

I started each of my kids at age 8 with single shot youth .22 rifle ..... while I had a .22 pistol, it is far easier to for little kids to keep a little kid sized .22 rifle pointed in a safe direction than a pistol .....which i found that they had an alarming tendency to point at their feet, when they were just starting out.

The kids got to pick out their own guns on their 8th birthday- they picked a Marlin 15y, a Savage Cub, a Marlin 15y, a Marlin 15ys, and the youngest blew her birthday money on an American Girl doll , and borrows her sister's Savage when she wants to shoot.

Once they had the 4 rules ingrained into them, and demonstrated competence with their .22's ....then they could shoot my .22/45, and move on to reduced loads in centerfire handguns and rifles.

Of the five you listed,,,

Of the five you listed,,,
My choice would be the SR-22.

It is a DA/SA with a decocker,,,
Which is my preferred action type.

It has a small frame,,,
So it will fit your kids hands.

Mine is not ammo picky at all,,,
It even feeds and shoots Remington mil-surp ammo.

The other four are good pistols,,,
But the SR-22 would suit your kids better.

SR22, or if the 7YO's hands are big enough to properly hold it, the 22/45 Lite for possibly a little better accuracy. Not that the SR22 isn't plenty accurate, but the 22/45 may be a little better.

I'd wait until the youngest can handle a Ruger MK II or III rather than buy one that fits a 7 yr old's hands

I'm not saying wait to buy the gun, but rather don't worry about the youngest not being able to shoot right now

In a couple more years there will be a big difference in both size and maturity

Don't discount a good .22LR revolver for teaching little ones pistol shooting.

They'll be less likely to tear through ammo when it takes more time to reload, and you want them focusing on the basics anyway.

Of the semi-auto options you listed, any of the Rugers will do (with my preference being the Mark IIIs). Avoid the potmetal Umarex "Walther" P22 or SIG 1911 22.

Might as well get them a gun that will last a lifetime.
