Been "looky-lou'ing" the Ciener .22 conversion for Beretta.
Now I see Beretta is offering one.
Whaddya think?

Beretta combo be more desirable? Probly both work fine.

Lavan, I saw a Ciener unit some time back. As I recall, and someone please correct me if I am in error, the unit I saw was your basic replacement slide/barrel/magazine but minus any sort of external safety. I don't know if this was an early production or prototype unit or if it just doesn't have a safety... I lost interest real fast. I hear they sell new for around $250 but the magazines are a bit pricey.

The Beretta unit is rumored to incorporate the FS decocker/safety system, a major plus. Sadly, the unit is rumored to retail for $350 and is currently unavailable. When they do become available I may reconsider the topic and add this factory conversion kit to my Beretta collection.

Most have found that when all is said and done, a Browning Buckmark or Ruger MKII makes a great deal more sense. I'm a Beretta fanatic and that's the route I took...

Word on the beretta list is that the beretta conversion kit will indeed be around $350. It does have a slide mounted safety but sadly it won't be available until spring. Which means a lot of us will have to ask Santa for something else this Christmas!

I know it is expensive but consider the amount you will save on ammo and you can get a lot more drawing practice. Heck, it is almost as cheap as dry-firing!

Darkstar is right about the Ciener. I have heard that it works but you would basicly have a safetyless 22 at that point, yikes!

good luck`

jbetz, thanks for the clarification on the Ciener unit. I agree that a lack of safety is what turned me off and kept me from ever buying the unit. The Beretta unit, while some time off and a touch more expensive, will be worth the wait. You'll get what you pay for...

BTR, I would imagine that the same conversion kit would fit the Centurion as well as the FS, Brig, Elite, etc. The Centurion is basically a full size frame with a shorter barrel/slide assembly, so I would have to believe at this time that the same kit will fit.

Time will tell... but I'll be waiting for one of the Beretta kits...
