.22 caliber "Quick-Shoks"

Kentucky Rifle

Formally, I carried .22 caliber "Stingers"
in every .22 I have. Pistol or rifle, they
all got Stingers. Recently, I've been
hearing things about the Quick-shok that
might make me want to switch to that. Do
many of you use that round in your .22's?
I was in a local gun shop yesterday
listening to a fellow who said he shot a
squrril with a quick-shok from his rifle and
it blew the squrril in half. Couldn't have
done much for the flavor to have to go pick
up the two halves of your squrril! :p

Not as accurate or consistent as Stingers

But unless you're shooting varmints at distance, why worry? Should be a fight-ender in a Beretta 21A.

Compare them side by side with Stingers or MiniMag (+V if you can find them) for accuracy before buying 10,000 rounds.

Regards.

Oddly enough, in my 10/22 the Quik Shok proved to give the tightest groups of some ten different brands/loads tested.

I shot a squirrel through the body at about 15 yards, and the exit wound looked more suitable for a .22 Mag.

I'm impressed.

My experience with them has been pretty similar. A shoulder shot from the side on a small squirrel with Quickshok .22s in my 6" revolver took out both shoulders and left the critter hanging together by only a strip of hide and fur! On groundhogs I`ve never found an exit hole and they drop instantly,no crawling or rolling around nuthin just dead. They`ve been pretty accurate too in all of my guns. Great varmint ammo but lousy if you wanna eat em. :) Marcus

They are a hyper-velocity cartridge, as opposed to a high-velocity cartridge. I tried some out a while back but had a lot of misfires. As with any ammo, be sure to try a bunch before you trust it for defense. If it works good in your firearms, it seems like a great round.

I like Quik shoks but they tend to jam frequently in my 10/22. They will not feed and extract properly out of my friend's Marlin lever action. I wonder if the OAL of the cartridge is much greater than regular .22 LR?

Minimal penetration and performs as advertised when I tested them in water. My first pick if I had to defend myself with a .22 LR.

I'm surprised Jody Hudson hasn't spoken up yet. Do a search on Jody Hudson and Quick Shok. He has done extensive "vegetable testing" with them and sings their praises. I think the thread was called ".22 for CCW" or something like that.

Quick Shoks have been very accurate in my Marlin and my S&W revolver. Haven't shot anything with them yet, though.

Forget the jello tests if you`re gonna use the ammo for varmints. They perform TOTALLY different in live animals. Also the test was done with super short barrels, keep that in mind. I wouldn`t use Quickshoks as defensive ammo,it just doesn`t have enough penetration. Stingers really don`t either. If I had to use a .22lr for protection I`d probably use std. velocity HPs because chances are they won`t fragment and they`ll penetrate enough to do some good. Actually I`d rather not trust a .22lr for anything bigger than groundhogs with any ammo. ;) Marcus
