.22 Caliber Knife!

While reading Michael Yon's blog, I came across this posting of a .22 Cal/Fixed Blade combo pistol/knife. Has anyone else ever seen something like this? This is very intriguing.

I coppied the URL to Mr. Yon's site where the photos are posted. .22 cal knife is extremely cool.

If anyone has ever seen one of these things, how does it shoot? Is it safe? I could see this being a very good mountain survival tool. Does anyone know where they are manufatured and sold?

Thanks for any info!

Powell and Brown still in business?

That was serial 117. Makes me think production was pretty low as the number looks hand stamped.

FPSRussia has a video on his Youtube channel where he was firing a .22 caliber revolver knife. A Bowie knife that had a 5 shot .22LR revolver in the handle.

These things existed commonly during the 19th century and often called "gambler's knives". Because a gambler would often carry one on him as in the late 19th century to early 20th century, it would be often frowned upon if one carried a military sized handgun in holster into a saloon/lounge. The whole "civilized" mentality has already started taking shape at the end of the frontier era, so pocket guns, and discreet weaponry like this became much more popular.

Not sure if they are still around. Aarond's link shows a picture of #116! One before the bad guy's that the cops confinscated.

I want to find out, though!

There are a number of these things in current production; one manufacturer makes a revolver-knife called the "GRAD" that fits the standard AR/M16 bayonet mount, the Chinese have their own 2-shot version built into a side-folding "switchblade"-style knife, and the Russians have a 4-barreled version based on ther SPP underwater pistool, called the "Chameleon". The Russians also make at least 2 versions of a single-shot knife pistol that fire the SP-4 silenced 30-cal cartridge, one that fires along the top of the blade, and another that fires out the butt of the knife.

Back in the good old days, when trapping was common, a company build a single bladed folding knife that has a 22 long smoothbore as part of the backspring. These were used to dispatch trapped aminals at inches distance and the a knife to skin the cridder. Two tools in one package. Another oddity from days of yore, there once was a fishook that has a 22 caliber cartridge added. Seems if a big enough fish was on your line, the gun would fire and the battle was over.

Yeah I've seen something like that. I saw a slidshow of the top 10 dumbest firearms. Like the double barrelled 1911, that looked for all the world like two 1911's glued together. Spawned jokes about having to be right back, they just had a brainstorm involving two glock 21's and a tube of Fastbond.

This was some sort of French thing... had brass knuckles in the center, a knife along the bottom, and most of a pistol on top.. I want to say Cylinder but no barrel, no front sight...

Edit: Went looking, it's called the Apache Revolver, and its from Belgium..

They come out in the 80's. Single shot .22LR and the cost a lot back then. It is a novelty / Collectable. The last one I saw on GB about a year ago went for over $2500..

Or just do put together one of these..

gos to show that there is really nothing new, they have been making knife ( both folding and fixed blade ) and sword guns since the flintlock was developed ( 300 yrs. ?). One of them actually fired the knife blade. I read about the one showed several years ago in one of the gun rags ( perhaps Gun Digest ). It looks more like a work of art than a using weapon.

Just saw a recent manufacture knife/.22 pistol combo at the local gun show. It was a screw off barrel single shot .22 with a fixed blade knife of about 3.5 or 4 inches. Shooting it required pulling the cocking handle at the rear of the knife hilt out and pressing the trigger up. I could not see any manufacture logo on it so it may have been a one of and I am not sure about the legal status of such so did not really consider the $350.00 the dealer wanted for it.
I would really consider one of the 5 (6?) shot knife/gun combos that were made several years ago, they are out of the biz now no more being made and the ones still around that show up at the shows being sold by a prior member of the company that made them, who said he got paid in guns when the company went under, are going for $2,500.00 and up!

Very interesting. According to one blog article, the designer wanted a gun he could openly carry without terrorizing the populace. Sheathed knives were common so he built the single shot knife gun in the OP's linked site. They evidently go all the way up to .45 acp. There is a successor company called San Juan Enterprise which maintains a website but no indication they are actually producing the gun knife.
