Yes, assuming the handgun is marked/chambered for .22 L.R. (long rifle).

Be careful .22 magnum is a different story. Handguns that shoot .22 magnum are typcally revolvers with a seperate cylinder to shoot them.
 
Just make sure it's the right length, as the above poster said. A .22 WSM cartridge in a .22 LR chamber makes for not a very good day, if you catch my drift.

But as far as hollowpoints being in a pistol barrel? Yeah, no problems there.

Don't try doing it the other way around, either. You can put 22 lrs in a magnum chamber but that doesn't mean you should.
