Was talking to my uncle today and he wanted me to get a price check on a .22/250 bolt or lever action for coyote hunting(He is not to computer savy). I'm not to familiar on smaller caliber rifles. (I usually shoot milsurp Enfields, Mausers and Mosin Nagants)After I got home tonight, I was thinking, why not something in .223? Any recommendations on a rifle for coyote? If .22/250 is fine what manufacturer and model can you all recommend.
TIA
Kevin

I'd say the general range limitation for a clean kill on coyotes for the .223 is around 200 yards; for the .22-250, 300 or better for those with the skill to properly place the shot.

I don't know of any lever-gun for these cartridges.

For the money, the Savage is well-regarded by many. Not knowing how serious a shooter your uncle is, I'm hesitant to say more than that he should do some personal checking for fit, feel and appearance. What HE likes, not what I like.

Regardless, he'll be hard put to buy a rifle, scope and mounts, sling, and a few boxes of ammo for under $500 to 600.
