22/250 8" twist

My rifle seems to like 69gr Sierra TMK burning IMR4166 . 32.5 produced an average MV of 3325. But rifle seems to really like so far 36grs of IMR 4451 behind a 75gr A-Max . Started out with 33grs and worked up to 36grs. From 34grs up accuracy was great with all loads. 36grs average MV was 3228 under 1/2 MOA. Next out I'll continue with incremental powder increases . Also bullets .004 into lands. But .020 away for Sierra TMKs.

You're running near 350,000 RPM w/ 55gr at 22-250 velocities.
If it's a thin-skinned varmint bullet, I'm surprised it's holding together.

That twist is more a heavy_MatchKing (77gr) barrel for a 223 doing a thousand fps less.

I can keep up with the slow twist factory 22-250 rifles with my 223 running hot.
The only way to make a 22-250 pay for itself is a fast twist.
So I bought the 22-250 reamer.

I did not figure this out on my own. I had to play with quickload and quicktarget and see that 55 gr bullets from a 22-250 at the threshold of loose primer pockets have the power of standing a stone's throw closer than a 223 at the threshold of loose primer pockets.

The light bullets just lose velocity too fast.

Ironworker,

That 75gr Amax load of your should be a High Power match winner :)

I shot against an old gentleman using a 1:8 twist 22-250 pushing heavy match bullets and I was very impressed at how much better those bullets buck the wind compared to how much adjustment I had to make with my service rifle (ar-15).
