Also was woundering if i could get some info on the following and what loads are used, what powder, what you shoot them at and wether or not they are good or should stay clear from? or suggest one that u prefur for the 1:12 twist?

26gn barnes varmint grenades

32gn sierra blitzking

32gn homandy v max

32gn nosler spitzer ballistic tip varmint

35gn berger match varmint

39gn sierra blitzking

40gn berger match varmint

40gn hormandy v max

40gn nosler spitzer ballistic tip varmint

Any advice will be muchly apreciated and once again sorry if this is a repeat or in the wrong section!

Thanks for your time and patience.

I have a Ruger #1 in 204. I really like the 32 gr. V-max. and Benchrest powder.

Going to heavier bullets put the 204 in the 223 class and defeats the purpose or ideal of the 204.

The 32 gr. bullet is flat and fast, I've shot everything from Prairie Dogs to Coyotes, clean one shot kills.

I have a Thompson center icon precision hunter in .204

Commerical Hornady Vmax 32gr will shoot .375 @100 yards all day if I do my part.

Reloading using Hornady 40 gr vmax,35gr berger,40gr berger using H322, H335and Varget about any combanition will shoot under .600 with H335 and Hornady 40gr Vmax giving best groups at this point still in testing stage.

The Icon has a 10:1 twist I've had some groups as small as .150 can't be consistent yet but more my fault then gun.:D

My 12 twist Howa will shoot tiny little groups with the 32 grn V-Max over max charges of Varget until the barrel fouls or gets hot, both of which occur after about 7-10 shots. They are absolutely devastating on raccoons and armadillos, so much so that I've given up trying other loads.

I think I'm giving up a little in the velocity department using Varget, but 3750-3800 fps is still plenty fast for sub 200 yard shots, which is about all I do.

I have tried the 40 grn Bergers, but just couldn't get them to shoot as well as the Hornadys. The V-Max's typically group around 1/2" for 3 shots with good bench and trigger technique. The Bergers just wouldn't group less than 1.5-2". I feel like they're probably at the very ragged edge of stability in my barrel at the velocities I'm getting.

I tend to agree with KraigWY about the heavier bullets, if you have to shoot the heavy stuff, go to a .223 or even a Swift or a .22-250

I have 4 now. A Remington 700 VL SS Thumbhole, a Savage 12 FV, an NEF Handi heavy barrel, and just picked up a 16" Contender barrel.

The Rem and Savage love the 32 gr. V-Max and Bench mark. I tried the 26 gr, Barnes VG with Benchmark and the Rem loved them, the Savage despised them. I'm sticking with the V-Max for component simplicity.

I've only shot Hornady 32 gr. factory in the NEF. I have some tweeking to do on this rifle but seems like I'll be able to get her to shoot well. Right now she's about a 1 1/4" gun. I've done nothing to it yet. $175 pawn shop special with a Simmons 6-20x44. I'm happy so far. The Contender barrel i have not shot yet.

I'm also with kraigwy. I don't see the point in going any heavier in bullet weight.

I have a 1:12 223 that really likes the 40 gr vmax & is very similar to 204 performance shooting the same weight vmax. Because of that, once the couple hundred rounds of 40 grain loaded 204 I have are gone I'll be switching to the 32 grain pills. However, that may take a while because I'm so pleased with the performance of my 223 that my other guns don't come out to play very often.

rugar 204

hi guys
i am shooting with a howa 1500 .204 and i am loading with blc-2 powder 29gr with a 39gr blitzking and federl gold medal primer bullet col 2.250" this load is clover leafing at 100 yards but i have tried hundreds of other round and my rifle doesnt seem to like anything less than 39gr bullet weight they just wont group. i have also struggled to get hold of a case length gauge so i came up with an idea.I got a .223 lee length gauge and trimmer put it in the drill and with wet and dry sand paper reamed it down to perfection and i have now got what seems to be the perfect cutter has anyone else tried this or something similar any advice would be great as this seems to be a tricky but very clever little rifle .
