.204 Ruger scope

Guys I'm new to this and I'm building a heavy barrel AR15 in .204 Ruger and am stuck on what to buy for a scope. Will be using it primarily for a long range varmint gun. Not really concerned on price but want the best I can get as far as brand, magnification and adjustment recommendations. Have been looking at Leupold and Nightforce so thanks for the info in advance.

Nightforce is well-known for repeatable adjustments - crucial if you'll be dialing elevation - and the glass is plenty clear. I've got their 3.5-15x50 on a 260. Depending on what ranges and target sizes you're shooting, you might step up to the 5.5-22x50. To me the x56 is unnecessary and complicates mounting, but if you need all the light you can get, you might consider it.

Nightforce's biggest downside is weight - mounting their larger scopes is like putting a lead pipe on top of your rifle.

There are of course other top-end scopes (S&B, March, USO, Premier) but IMHO, Nightforce is one of the best values. Leupold is good, too, but they don't target the same market.

I highly recommend the Burris 8-32 Ballistic Plex. I've got it on my .204 and find it's hard to miss out to 500 yards. I typically don't get past 16x though. I'm too darn shakey.

Not concerned about price?

In the real world, I'm starting to like Sightron a lot.

I use a Mueller Eradicator 8.5-32 on my 204. It works great, clarity and light gathering is entirely acceptable and it was $200.

Been hearing a lot of good things about the Vortex Viper Tacticals. Clear glass, accurate, repeatable adjustments, and the warranty is second to none.
