So just planning a trip down their to my first NRA convention. Is in april 13-15th weekend.

Is this like a gun show? Can you buy guns or is it just like a car show where you can see all the new items?

Coming from IL, so there would be the state to state transfer if I saw something.

Anyone know how this works?

I'll still buy some knives and stuff if can't buy a gun, but we will see.

Think in terms of car show.

The manufacturers have product displays, but you can't just walk in and buy a S&W off the floor. It's more to show off product. If you see something you like, talk to your local shop when you get home.

There are smaller booths that do sell accessories or completely unrelated things, but I don't remember guns and ammo ever being offered for sale.

Oh, thats pretty much what I thought. Thanks.

I managed to convince my wife it was a must to drive down from Chicago with some of my family (she is not a big gun fan). She just wants an afternoon at the Chase Plaza Hotel spa! At least she is going.

It's worth the trip. For gun enthusiasts, the exhibit hall is a real hoot. For Chicago residents, that's even home opening weekend for the Cardinals, and they'll be smacking the Cubs around, so that may also be worthwhile. :p

I went in 2007 I red all it more of a show, even though you can buy hats, mugs, pins etc. As I'm sure you know I never considered buying anything do to the muss & fuss factors getting it back a cross the Mississippi to IL.

yep, aside from throwing it across the mighty Mississippi to the other side, i would not go thru all the bother to get it to IL.

And used to live in St. Louis so am Cardinals fan also. At least they win now and then!

The display hall is the big draw. You can handle all of the guns you might only see in magazines and get direct answers from the manufacturers reps. Military usually has simulators set up that you can play with. Lots of handouts and trinkets. Some of the various discussion groups can be interesting also. Plan for a full day to walk around.

I am a Cardinal fan too. I grew up in Missouri listening to Stan Musial, Ken Boyer, Bob Gibson, and others play. I remember the whole Cardinal's infield starting the 1964 Allstar Game. And the Cardinal's broadcast team was probably the best ever assembled. It was Harey Carey, Joe Garagiola, and Jack Buck. The Card's have the second best World Series record in baseball. The only team with a better record is of course the Yankees.

The Cardinals did make possibly the stupidest trade ever when they traded Curt Flood and Tim McCarver to Philadelphia for Richie Allen. He was a trouble maker and never did any thing to help the Cardinals. Flood got 200 hits every year and always won the golden glove award. However he was the goat in I believe it was the 1968 World Series. He dropped a fly ball that would have given the Cardinals the series but allowed I believe it was the Tigers to win.

Regarding the NRA show, the Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network will have a booth there, and invite you all to stop by and chat. We will also be hosting an autograph signing for Massad Ayoob on Saturday, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. First 100 folks get an autographed 8x10 color photograph. Not sure of the booth number, but the show is not so big you can't find us.
